WisTex got a reaction from matthewjohn938 in Sub-Domains: How Can It Help Your Site?
If you have multiple sections on your website or are using different scripts, sometimes using subdomains is a good way to separate those sections. Each section has its own unique subdomain, which makes it easier to type directly into the browser for quick access. For example, blog.example.com would take you directly to the blog.
It is also used on websites that have a lot of traffic or that require a lot of disk space, where the different subdomains can be moved to different servers as needed without affecting the URLs.  For example, www.example.com might be on one server, while store.example.com might be on another.

It's also useful if you are using a third-party service, such as a hosting project management system, and you want to have your domain associated with your account. For example, you have your main website on a regular web hosting account at www.example.com, and your project management system is on the provider's server and you set it up so it can be accessed at projects.example.com.
(I tried to edit my earlier post to add this, but it wouldn't let me.)

Making a website profitable is definitely not a walk in the park;it requires determination and a knowledge of the necessary skills to bring in the much needed traffic.
Lots of folks sell dead ponies to unsuspecting people on the Internet, so I suggest you do a thorough research before parting with your hard earned dollars.
If you follow your passion and build up a website in the end it will become worth all the trouble.

To be fair, if a site is making $700 a month then it seems a bit suspicious that they would want to sell it really. Either the costs of running the business are way too high and thus they are not making a proper profit or there is something suspicious going on with the website that they want to get rid of it. They could easily make that $2000 in a few months if they are making $700 a month so it seems weird that they would want to get rid of it really. Plus, like you said, statistics can be faked so I would definitely be careful if the original poster wants to go ahead and buy the web host for $2000.

That's how acquisitions and mergers usually ends.  Look what happened to Nokia a telecom's giant and after being acquired it just died in obscurity.  Actually Twitter bought Vine and killed it.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.  I was out of town the past week and still catching up or it would have been addressed sooner.
The contest and board rules will be updated for April's contest per my notes.

Twitter purchased Vine, and then due to Vine not growing as expected due to competitors like Instagram adding video support, and Twitter having financial issues, Twitter decided to shut down Vine.

It depends on what software you are using and what you are programming.
For example, if you are programming in PHP, the bare minimum software you would need is a text editor, an FTP program (or another way to transfer files), and a web browser. Most modern computers could handle that quite easily (assuming you are uploading to a web server).
If you are using more advanced programming tools, you would need a computer that could run those tools.
For example, Windows Studio 2017 would need a computer that could run windows, have a 1.8 Ghz or better processor, 2 GB or RAM (4 GB recommended), 130 GB of free hard drive space for installation files, and a video card that supports a minimum resolution of 720px. Ref: Visual Studio 2017 System Requirements Other programs will have different requirements. Also, if you are programming in a compiled language (i.e. creating computer programs) then the requirements would typically be higher. The faster your computer, the faster it will compile.
The programming tools you use will often specify what the minimum requirements are.
It's hard to get more specific without knowing what kind of programming you intend on doing.

One thing that I have noticed on many forums, including ones that I have run myself, is the existence of serial posts. Serial posts are posts where there are hundreds of repetitive replies, such as posting different memes, or a word association game. They are typically used by members to increase their post count or to win contests, but they also can be a fun mindless game for members to participate in.
They are both good and bad, from the perspective of a forum owner.
    Good Things
Increases activity on the forums, making it more active than it otherwise would be. If it is structured as something people can reply to, it can increase replies by other users. If it is content people want to view, then it may increase readership and page views. Members feel as if they are contributing to the forum. Some serial posts can actually be fun to post to or read. Bad Things
Unless separated from normal posts, it can be used to increase post counts and points for contests. People often post content they don't own, which may lead to copyright issues. It may lead to spammy posts. It can clutter up the activity feed for other users who are trying to read normal posts. Possible Tactics
There are ways to deal with serial posts that maximize their benefits while minimizing the down side.
Have a special forum area reserved for serial posts, and move any serial post started in another forum area to this forum area. Serial posts and their replies do not count in any contest or competition. If possible, replies to serial posts do not appear in activity feeds. People have to go to the serial posts section to participate in serial posts. Optionally disable increasing someone's post count based on replies in a serial post. Using these tactics will increase activity on the forum, while keeping contests fair, while not cluttering up the rest of the forum.

WisTex reacted to Ash in Whats wrong with Google+? Why do people hate it?
There are a lot of problems with Google+, which is weird because you would think something developed by a massive company like Google would be much better. Like you said, I'm sure they make their statistics look a lot better than they are. The best thing for them is that it uses the same Google account that most of us already have, so they can easily say for example that I am a member of Google+ when really I don't use it at all.
The biggest problem for them was that Facebook and Twitter, and even some of the other smaller social media sites were just too good for them to even compete with. No one was really going to leave those sites and start using Google+ when it basically did the same things as those sites.
