Your title is misleading, as I thought you were transferring ownership of the domain. So you have one website, and you want to use the domain for another website? You don't need a company for it all you do is change the DNS

APT and Aptitude are both frontends to DPKG. I would use APT for major upgrades (ex. 11.10 to 12.04) because it finds a quicker upgrade path for multiple packages and aptitude for basic updates.

I've heard a lot of bad things from former customers of GoDaddy and 1&1. Yes they are some of the largest hosting providers, but their quality isn't the best. Like someone said, they are like Wal-Mart, large and well-known, but in order to provide such low prices, they sacrifice quality. Their servers are frequently overloaded and their customer support is lacking.

There will always be people who prefer quality hosts, which is why there are many that have been in business longer than both of those big names.

No, you must be an accredited post-secondary educational U.S. institution to register a .edu. I'm not sure who told you otherwise.

The tld makes no difference with the search engines directly.

I still feel much safer on a Mac than I will ever on Windows. I never run antivirus or anything like that on it. But on Windows I have several

    Hipsters are the new fanboys.

I do prefer Unix based OS over Windows, but I've never been one to force it on people, because at the end of the day an OS is just a tool we use, and most people don't even know the difference.

redinit got a reaction from Nathan in Steam coming to Linux
Far too long have I heard statements of Linux not being "desktop ready". When I, as do a lot of other people, use Linux exclusively on the desktop, not to mention Linux is the OS of choice for a majority of the servers on the internet (blowing away Windows).

The main problem people have is not with Linux, but with software developers, such as Autodesk, Adobe, Steam, etc.. not writing their software with Linux in mind. IMO, Linux/BSD has developed a much more stable kernel than Microsoft.

In reality most consumers don't know what an OS or kernel is, they just want to be able to run the popular software available.

I think we are actually on the same page, we said the same thing but you had an extra use case which makes my point better than I did.

It stops some bots, but big named sites like Gmail, Windows Live, Yahoo have had there CAPTCHA system cracked. There's a University in Newcastle with a research team that has a 90% success rate of getting pass Windows Live CAPTCHA. There are a handful of methods to crack CAPTCHAs, thats why software such as phpBB, Wordpress constantly need to update their techniques. Which is why you are starting to see some ridiculous CAPTCHAs. Namely the ones where you enter two words that you need a magnifying glass and the amulet of Zeus to read. Or the ones where you have to solve algebraic equation.

Besides this http://icculus.org/lgfaq/gamelist.php or http://www.lgdb.org/. Any game can potentially run on Linux

I think you are missing the point, with Steam being available on Linux, this opens up development for future Linux games.

Unless you can justify your statement of Steam being idiots, when in reality they know way more about the gaming market than any of us on this board. I mean, you would need experience with video game publishing or distribution, or actually use Linux as a desktop to have a valid argument.
