Domain Contest

I was thinking about running a contest to give out a free domain to the best new topic that's started on the board once every 2 weeks.

I'm trying to find a good way to decide what the best new topic is.

Any suggestions on how to do this?

Does this interest anyone?

I like the domain give-away idea. I think it should be given to the member of the week or month instead of best new topic though... that would make it a lot easier to choose a winner. The only way to track best new topics are through polls and I don't think anyone would know which topic to vote for.. but they could easily name someone that has helped or inspired them in the forums.

Ok, that makes sense. How would you choose a member of the week or month though? I don't really want to do most topics or most post because then I would attract spam.

Any suggestions on how to do this?

1. Ask someone neutral to decide.

2. Ask people to vote (but not for themselves).

3. Ask for submissions in a particular category and choose the best one.

4. Evaluate participation over the whole period - number of posts, how many were useful, average length, stupid crap posts, etc. Work out a simple +/- points system for yourself so it's easier (+1 useful post, +1 10 lines long, -1 huge quote, etc.)

5. Judge the competition entirely on the number of bikini photos they post.

I'm full of great ideas, eh? You're gonna choose number 5, I just know it... :)

I think the thread which gets the most replies or has a lot of good discussions inside it will also be a good way to choose which is the best thread. So for example, a thread which has got a lot of discussions started, that could be the "best thread" of the weeks.
