Administrators Nathan Posted February 27, 2012 Administrators Share Posted February 27, 2012 So what's your favorite design software for images? I really like Fireworks. I know it's not nearly as widely used and most professionals us Photoshop. I just find Fireworks easier to use.
godarm
My favorite is Photoshop. Although it took me a month to learn Photoshop it was totally worth it. At first it may look so complicated but trust me once you learn about the basic tools , you can do wonders with Photoshop.
visionrafael84
I've used photoshop for many years now. My usage for it has been very moderate, minor touchups and creations. I love all the new features in the new CS6 one word amazing.

Administrators Nathan Posted February 28, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted February 28, 2012 What's the extended part stand for?
bryce12
What's the extended part stand for? Beats me. Here is what Adobe says The newest version of Adobe® Photoshop® CS5 Extended software delivers all the state-of-the-art editing, compositing, and graphic design capabilities in industry-standard Photoshop CS5 plus breakthrough tools for 3D design and motion editing. And now, use it with creativity-boosting mobile apps.1 Regarding original question, I use Gimp a lot to create and modify images.
render
I still use Photoshop CS3 for all my graphic design needs. Somehow the range of CS3 features is sufficient enough to satisfy me. May be I need to take another look on more recent Photoshop versions and justify the upgrade to CS6.
DevilKid
I have used both Fireworks and Photoshop. And from my experience of fireworks, it was a bit too hard to get used to because I have been using Photoshop for nearly about 8 years now. However, it is a good software for a new user to use for graphics design. Photoshop is my favourite because I have a lot of knowledge about it but also because it is more professional than Fireworks. MLKS
Well, I've only used a few image designing softwares but I think my favourite would be Adobe Photoshop CS5. Easy to use/ user friendly, very advance and impressive qualities as well.
DarkGizmo
I've used the following in the past: -Photoshop 7.0 -ImageReady 7.0 -Pixelmator -GIMP -Photoshop CS4 -Photoshop CS5 and I gotta say Photoshop CS5 is by far the best out of all the ones I listed. Tons of helpful features, makes manipulating images and designing new ones really easy and intuitive. I hear CS6 only improves upon that with some pretty awesome and helpful new features. I'm looking to upgrade to it in the near future if all goes well.
Microsuck
Extended pretty much just means that it has 3D capability.
rapt0r
Photoshop for sure. It is by far the best photo editing software in the market I have encountered in my life. There are thousands of available online tutorials for it so it's not hard at all to learn using it properly. I also use Windows Paint for simple editing tasks

rapt0r
I can't use paint for anything.... I just use it only for image cropping. When i take a screenshot I just quickly paste it into paint then crop out the wanted part of the picture then save it. I can do this much faster in paint than in photoshop (mainly because photoshop loads much slower).
fakesky
http://www.reinegger.net/50_reasons_not_to_use_photoshop_for_webdesign.html Didn't try it myself, but I guess it's worth trying.
ChuckTesta
While a lot of people here are saying Photoshop CS5, I'd bet a Benjamin NONE of them actually paid for it! LOL Anyways, I've used Photoshop for the past year and i really like it. I've tried paint (who hasn't, it stinks!!) and i've tried gimp. Gimp is a VERY good alternative to photoshop. It's FREE and offers MOST of the features photoshop does, especially for a novice.
dojo
Have used PhotoImpact 10 years ago (when ULead owned them and they were not bought by Corel) and then found Photoshop. It wasn't really love at first sight, since I didn't get how the layers worked, but, once I understood tihs, it blew me away. I can't work with anything else. It's ideal for what I have to do as a web designer.
dagscot
I've used Fireworks and Photoshop and find myself using photoshop more often. Fireworks is a great piece of software to do any graphic design work. Photoshop, on the other hand, I've used for image editing, graphic design, retouching and lots more but it has a pretty steep learning curve. I love the layers. KMRock
I love photoshop, I've used it since CS2 and never looked back. Need to get the newest one though.
KellyKellz
I've used Gimp and Photoshop and I can say that Photoshop is my favorite. There are so many tutorials online and it seems like it the industries standard as far as I know of. Each update also seems to bring its users more features to make their design jobs easier and more unique. I love Photoshop!
Victor Leigh
I have never used Photoshop to produce anything. Probably it was the price that stopped me. Also when I first knew about Photoshop, it was only available for the Mac and a Mac, back then, cost more than an arm and a leg, for me, that is. So I started with a pc program which I have already forgotten the name of. All that I remembered was that it was able to rotate text without jagged edges. Later I got a copy of CorelDraw and that was my main graphics program for many years. There was one time when I could look at any image created by Photoshop and duplicate the results with CorelDraw. Sadly, my skills have deteriorated through lack of practice for the last several years. Now I am on LInux and I use GIMP. Also Inkscape. And recently XaraLX. Xara works very much like CorelDraw. To each its own. What works for me may not work for you and vice versa. That's the reason why we have options. I actually like people that are versatile and can use more than one software so I commend you for being able to do so. I'm still learning but I think once I get to the point where I feel like I've mastered Photoshop I'll move around and try other programs to expand my knowledge. KMRock
Photoshop's price is painful, but worth it ONLY IF you plan on doing a lot of graphics work.
Agent_Nycto
I've always been a more traditional artist, but I've been teaching myself how to use GIMP. It's open source and free, so it was within my budget. So far it seems to be fairly comparable to Photoshop. I'm sure there are major differences for people who are better trained and more professional than I am, but for just starting out, it's not bad, right? Mommajj8
I've used Photoshop for 10+ years now. I can't imagine using anything else. I also use Illustrator in conjunction with Photoshop.
