Windows 8 Developer Preview

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Windows 8 developer preview is now available for download. You can get it from

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows-8/preview

Microsoft hopes that Windows 8 will help it to compete with Apple and Android since it will work on Computers, Tablets and Phones. Microsoft is also planning to offer Mircrosoft Office bundled with Window 8 tablets in order to get an advantage over Apple.

Are you looking forward to Window 8? Do you think it can become a dominant OS for tablets?

Bryce

I've seen it and I am really liking the newer Windows'. I am still on Windows XP but I am thinking of upgrading my laptop later this year or buying a new one so that I can also enjoy the beauty of the newer OS'.

I too think I'll stick with Windows 7 for awhile before upgrading to Windows 8. Personally, I feel like they just released 7 not so long ago and they're already looking to push out another version. Give windows 7 a few more years before you begin working on a new OS version....that's the problem with both Apple and Windows, they release 'major' upgrades to their OS too quickly. By the time someone upgrades to windows 7 they already have Windows 8 out the door. It's frustrating. Not to mention, rushing releases like this often leads to unsatisfied customers and a buggy OS. Yes I'm referring to Windows Vista and Mac OSX Lion. Now OSX is coming out with Mountain Lion? Lion was just released this past year for god sake! It's not even a year old!

As Windows gets more user friendly, I find it getting more restrictive in some areas... I understand why they keep pushing out new versions, but eventually I see myself going linux... I have a feeling there will be a separation of Windows from Consumer, to Professional or developer editions. Consumer meaning pretty, and automagically connecting your devices and syncing data while majorly restricting functionality. Professional meaning here's our new OS, have fun getting it the way you like it, but keeping all functionality.

I am using it now in my pc and i am loving it.

Could you post screenshots of your desktop or the UI? Or perhaps make a youtube video demoing it off? I'm really curious as to how Windows 8 is shaping up but I don't think I'll be switching to it anytime soon. Not until I absolutely have to I guess. :) Plus i have a touch screen desktop so I'd want to make sure it absolutely works well with it. :)

I have seen that video a few times now, and I have to say each time I have seen the video I haven't really been that impressed.. I personally think it's a huge downgrade from Windows 7 if you ask me.. I think it can use some major works; I think they should hire me if they want a real OS. :)

It's going to be much more "accepted" when touch screen desktop monitors are more mainstream in my opinion... It's far too optimized for touch, yet far too many people will have it installed on non touch devices, and to be honest I don't really like the experience so far in terms of usability. Of course it's new and just might take some getting used to.

As for WOA tablets, I'd pick one up over any other in a heartbeat, assuming that they perform as well as demonstrated... But I already got a Playbook so Msft will have to wait for me :)

I learned more about windows 8 now, I am most likely staying to windows 7 as it doesn't really appeal me.

I agree with this. I don't think I'll be upgrading until I absolutely have to upgrade and have no other choice in the matter.

I don' like the new OS and look of it, I much prefer windows 7. I know where everything is and it's what i'm used to, but I would say also after a while I would get used to Windows 8 and would love it, just not feeling the love yet

I prefer Windows 7 too. As far as I know, Windows 8 is especially for touchcomputers. I think there could be problems when using keyboard and mouse.

Furthermore, every Windows with a even number (is that right? 'Google translater') is a fail. Fun aside, I think i stay at Windows 7, I'm happy with it.

I am not a huge fan of Windows 8. I have run the CP a bit for a while now, and am underwhelmed, to be honest. The biggest difference between 7 and 8 is Metro — essentially a crummy tablet UI shoved into your desktop. Actually, it isn't horrible. Sometimes those tiles look nice.

Right now, to sum it up:

- Metro has limited color themes

- Missing classic start menu annoys me

-- Harder to shut down. Your quickest bet is to go to the top right hot corner, then in the popout click settings, then Turn Off. Annnoyyyying.

- Breaks some applications (at least, CamStudio didn't start for me)

- No huge reason to upgrade.

- Very fast boot time (under 30 seconds with newish install). Only have NP++, Aptana, some other stuff, and Chrome. None of which are startup items.

So I take it there are no REAL improvements at all from Windows 7?

Wow, that sounds extremely annoying. I'm running Windows XP 32-bit right now, have been since 2004 and haven't had many problems with it. The main thing that kept me from upgrading is usually every time I would Google software or old games, there would be reports of 'having trouble running this on 64-bit' or 'doesn't work on windows 7'. Finally going to upgrade this week. Will probably be another 7-8 years before Microsoft comes up with a platform that's superior enough to upgrade.

Basically from the demo they had a few months ago to now, I'm not feeling Windows 8 at all. I have Windows 7 64 bit and I can run a lot of games on here. I had XP for six years, because I used Vista on my dad's laptop and hated the hell out of that thing. I know more than likely I'll be keeping 7 for awhile, but just wanted to let you know you should upgrade to the 64 Bit :) I love it and when you look back on XP, you're gonna see how outdated it looks compared to 7 - and they're both splendid OS's.

Heh, I find it funny how you mentioned the even numbers... win2000, Vista...

I personally hate everyone who hates the change. I am going to upgrade to Windows 8 as soon as it stops being updated every one hour so I am not restarting my PC more than actually running it.
