ford1001 Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Back when Portal 2 was announced for the PlayStation 3 at E3 2010, it was an unbelievable shock to the gaming community. Gabe Newell said it will be “the best version” of the game on console. Here’s another reason why. Back as early as June of last year, right after E3, rumors were circulating that Portal 2 on the PS3 would be getting cross-platform co-op capabilities with the PC and Mac. A feature not unheard of, but rarely seen in the gaming community. It looks like Valve has completely blown the roof off of cross-platform by GIVING AWAY copies of Portal 2. By linking your Steam ID with your PlayStation Network account, you can download the game for free on your computer of choice. But the craziness doesn’t stop there. Game saves will actually be dynamically linked across the Steam Cloud so your progress will never be lost from platform to platform. Valve is really raising the bar here. Gabe Newell, President an Co-Founder of Valve said he wanted to make good on his promise back at E3. We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product. Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers. We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases. Josh Weier, Project Lead on Portal 2 at Valve, actually described the entire painless process. PS3 gamers will be able to simply drop the Blu-Ray disc in the PS3, link to their Steam account from inside the game, and all their Steam friends (on PC and Mac) will be visible and accessible for chat and game invites. Many people played the first game on PC or Mac due to the less-than-stellar PS3 version of The Orange Box, and were wondering about which version to play the sequel on. Shaunno Posted January 19, 2011 Posted January 19, 2011 Well I find it could that game developers are starting to implement cross-platforming like this and I hope to see it on other games in the future-bridging all three major platforms. Im not a fan of portal, but to anyone whos interested this is a nice post +1. Quote
