Ryaan1205 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 hey guys, just replaced my motherboard, and i need too 'reactivate' windows. i have rang 'microsoft' up, and it put me through too a automated service, i gave them the code, and said i was pirating apparently, what should i do? really annoying as i have bascially wasted 60 pounds, and i cant even find a number for microsoft to talk to a proper person! :@ thanks guys Quote
Shaunno Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Well when I replaced my mobo and CPU I had to reactivate Windows by ringing them up I had to give the automated service my serial number and the machine gave me a 25 digit code back to type into Windows and it worked ok for me, are you sure you gave the correct serial and typed the correct code back into Windows. By the way i'm on win7 Quote
Ryaan1205 Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 yeah but they said it wasnt the right code, just gonna re format it, and start over! ahaa Quote
Shaunno Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 even if you reformat you will have to active it because your hardware ID has changed since you replaced some major parts thats why you have to do it in the first place because the software thinks your trying to install it on more than one machine Quote
Thrill Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Re-formatting isn't going to help. I would definitely look to start contacting Microsoft saying you've upgrade your motherboard and now you're serial isn't working. If you've paid for Windows, then you surely are entitled to it. I'd be sure to ring them up again and try and sort it Quote
Brad Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Heres a link to get in touch with Microsoft. http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_selector_telephone?ws=support Quote
