Hi Don,

Welcome to Geeksoup.net! :o Can you take a few screenshots firewall settings? We can just check if it's turned on correctly :o

Are there any error codes when you are trying to install important security updates? Also what are the actual updates called?

Cheers :)

Can you not just connect the printer to your PC through USB?

I have a wireless printer and to install it you first have to connect it using USB, once the drivers were installed you could disconnect the printer and it would work through the router.

Hi,

Let's see if the Firewall process is actually running.

1. Click Start, type services, right click on Services item from the list, click “Run as administrator”.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.

2. From the list of services, double click on Windows Firewall, change the startup type to Automatic, click Start and then click ok.

Now let's do the same for Windows Defender.

1. Set the Windows Defender service to Automatic instead of Disabled or Manual. To do this, follow these steps:

2. Click Start, type services in the Start Search box, and then click Services in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click Continue.

3. Double-click the Windows Defender service, and then in the Startup type box, click Automatic.

4. Click OK.

Do you have any Security software installed such as ESET? Any other firewalls?

Try this, though :o

Open a "run as administrator" command prompt.

Go to "c:\windows\system32\config\TxR" (or the equivalent location on your PC)

- run "attrib –H –S *" to make all hidden files in the directory visible.

- run "del *.blf"

- run "del *.regtrans-ms"

- reboot the machine

It would be better if you completely uninstalled it, and went for something like Avira Antivir. Try the next bit I told you to, that should work :o

No you don't type Run As Administrator, you right click and click 'Run as Administrator' :o

Go to start type in cmd > then right click the cmd application and hit Run As Administrator.

Oh you must be typing it into the search bar, you need to type it in an application called 'run' when you press start look down the side of the menu that pops up and look for a tab called 'Run' and click that, once it's opened type 'cmd' without the quotation marks and hit enter, if it's not located down the side of the start menu type it in search and see if you can find it that way.

You could google how to access 'run' if my explanation is incorrect.
