Marc Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Here is a good one if you take photos in raw format Raw therapee http://rawtherapee.com/blog/list/13 This is an excellent raw processor that supports most of the formats (if not all) and is completely standalone. You can get this both on windows and Linux although I have only ever used on windows. Quote
simplysidy Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 I wonder why no one mentioned Thundebird on this list yet and also filezilla Quote
dagscot Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 Great list. I use quite a few of these and I would add that free doesn't mean cheap. There's some extremely good software that is free. I use a combination of DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink when I rip DVD's. I use the free version of MediaMonkey to organize my music. And I use a both AVG and Malwarebytes to protect my computer. Quote
lstryhrn Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 This is a very nice list. I think people should take advantage of this. A lot of people think if it is free they quality of the software is bad which is not the case. The best one this list is Malware Bytes. This software has never failed me. It always does the trick. digitalsatori Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 AlternativeTo.net is also a great resource for finding alternatives to popular products. The site has rating and reviews of the alternative products, which is helpful in determining if the alternative is actually worth trying. http://alternativeto.net/ Quote
NerdIndeed Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Such a comprehensive list! And what's best is that they are all for free! I'll refer to this thread when I need to search for free software to carry out some of my tasks. Thanks for sharing! Quote
Kaushik Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Outstanding list. Nice categorization too. It is really helpful for many people. Most people do not the difference between an anti virus and an anti malware. So this will help them go deeper into the applications and check them out on Google. Thank you again. Outstanding list.
