Remember whipping out your PS1/PS2/Gameboy and playing the classics? Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Medal of Honour, Pokémon?

Imagine having all those consoles in one? And being able to play all those games again...

Well now you can using your PC/Laptop!

There are ways of getting these emulators legally and for free, if you want a few of these emulators (considering you have a half decent system to run them off) I will list a few below.

The PS1 and PS2 Emulator can be illegal if you dont extract your own BIOS information from your previous Playstation's.

I recommend:

PS1 -

ePSXe (http://www.epsxe.com/)

PS2 (Your system will need to be good to run this perfectly) -

PCSX2 (http://pcsx2.net/)

Gameboy Advance (You don't need a great system to run this) -

http://vba.ngemu.com/

These are a few, but there are much more emulators for almost every type of system, including:

Xbox emulator

Atari emulator

Sega Megadrive emulator

Sega Saturn/Genesis emulator

Nintendo 64 emulator

Super Nintendo emulator

... and more!

If you do decide to download some of these and have trouble setting them up, I'll be glad to help, just put a comment below or send a PM. :)

Now you've set one up, great, now what to play? And how do I play?

I strongly recommend getting a PC controller or an Xbox controller to play these with, and playing them on Keyboard doesn't give you the same feeling.

You may want to use some controller mapping software such as Xpadder to help you - (http://xpadder.com/)

Set up your controller, or if you haven't got one don't bother configuring the controller configuration.

You can play some games if you still have the original CD/DVD's by putting them in your CD/DVD drive, if not, you can download ISO's of the CD's, these are basically what the CD drive reads when I CD is put in, you will need virtual drive making software (This is usually for the PS2 Emulator) for this I use Daemon Tools Lite (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/products/dtLite) What this does is makes the computer think that you have more CD/DVD drives than you actually have, you can mount the ISO on one of these virtual drives (The computer will read the file as if you just put a CD or DVD into your real CD/DVD drive! Clever stuff.)

ROM's and ISO's are (I think) illegal unless you pay for them or have the original game. So download at your own risk.

To find these games, go into your favourite search engine, google naturally, and type in [Console name] and/or [Game name] followed by ROM or ISO download. e.g. -

Resident Evil 1 PS1 ROM

Once the ROM/ISO is downloaded and mounted onto your virtual drive (If you're using the PS2 emulator, the other emulators can just read the ISO without having it loaded onto a virtual drive.) You're ready to go!

I'll write a tutorial on how to use the emulators if enough people demand for it!

Thank-you for reading! Good Luck! :)

You missed a bit out Candy

About The PS1 and PS2 Emulator that they can be illegal if you dont extract your own BIOS information from your previous Playstation's.

and you need to put the Bios into the BIOS folders and also need a Zlib1.dll for the EPSXE Emulator for it to run.

There is more but at this moment in time i cannot be bothered to type anymore.

Good lad for getting the info, I did hear about that but wasn't sure what to do about it, I'll add it into it now. :) I know about the missing .dll and the BIOS that needs to be downloaded, but I was to add them in the tutorial if and when I add one. :)

Old but gold! It is 2018. and soon it will be 2019., and I still enjoy playing old PS1/PS2 games on PC, thanks to emulators. Maybe I love these games so much because they remind me of my childhood, although graphics are outdated.

Well, it's 2019, this guide is kinda outdated, but just imagine how many improvements have been since then! I've seen that ps3 and even Nintendo Switch can be emulated. Emulators on consoles themselves are also worthy of mention, it's like having several consoles in one!
