CHiLL Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 http://uk.kotaku.com/5795355/valve-probably-done-with-single+player-games I seriously hope not, not at least before the latest Half-Life edition comes out. Quote
Thrill Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Surely, there's too much money involved for this to happen Quote
CHiLL Posted April 26, 2011 Author Posted April 26, 2011 I don't know, a lot of games are multiplayer these days. Quote
Shaunno Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 indeed the money is mainly in multiplayer, when you buy a game the money is mainly for MP, because SP is so easy to crack. Quote
Ezekiel Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Why focus on single player games? Single players games once done it's over! People wouldn't bother in playing those games again unless they're hardcore fans of the game. Multi-player game on the other hand is a gold mine. They can release new maps for the players to buy and some premium upgrades only attainable by buying them with real money. Still, I suggest Valve won't stop creating single player games. Being able to create great games, single player or multi player would be great for their reputation. Quote
Jessi Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I kinda doubt it happens yet, but I could definitely see why they might. Multiplayer games are definitely where the money is. People who want to play solo can still play those games by themselves usually, so it markets toward everyone. On the flip side, people who prefer to play with others, can't get that from single player games so it limits it too much. Quote
Creaky Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I don't use Steam but enjoy single player games, really hope this doesnt happen. Quote
psufootball Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 I doubt that they're done completely. They've got Half Life 2: Episode 3, Half Life 3, and Portal 3 yet to make! Plus Left 4 Dead 3 (but that's co-op so not really single player). Quote
CHiLL Posted May 23, 2012 Author Posted May 23, 2012 (edited) I doubt that they're done completely. They've got Half Life 2: Episode 3, Half Life 3, and Portal 3 yet to make! Plus Left 4 Dead 3 (but that's co-op so not really single player). A new Portal game hasn't been announced, or even rumoured at. But like with Left 4 Dead, they aren't single player games in the original sense of the term. Much of the game has turned to multiplayer. This is where Half-Life comes in, as the general consensus on the Internet is that Episode 3 has been dropped, and they're making a full blown game; Half-Life 3 instead of another episodic game and it will most likely use a new graphics engine (Source 2 as opposed to just Source). It also appears that Half-Life 3 has the code-name 'Ricochet 2'. Granted there was a game called Ricochet by Valve many moons ago, the likeliness of a sequel is extremely slim, hence the possible code-name for the next Half-Life installment. (Yes, I am somewhat obsessed with the Half-Life series) Edited May 23, 2012 by CHiLL Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted May 23, 2012 Administrators Posted May 23, 2012 I doubt that they're done completely. They've got Half Life 2: Episode 3, Half Life 3, and Portal 3 yet to make! Plus Left 4 Dead 3 (but that's co-op so not really single player). I agree with Half Life, that's one of their flagship products. I at least think they will keep it going. Quote
ljepilo Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 http://uk.kotaku.com...le player-games I seriously hope not, not at least before the latest Half-Life edition comes out. I hardly doubt they are gonna release the latest Half-Life edition... :/ Quote
