ford1001 Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Is there an alternative to iTunes that works on Ubuntu? Quote
CHiLL Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Amarok appears to be very popular among the Linux communities. Quote
DarkGizmo Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Is there an alternative for linux that allows syncing of your iPhone, iPad and iPods though? That's the real question here. I'd like to be able to sync up my devices and such as needed. Basically like having the same experience I would've had if I was using iTunes on my windows machine. This would be really good to know in the future though since I have a computer that's sort of dying running windows and I want to revive it with a linux distro. Quote
Administrators Tony Posted March 12, 2012 Administrators Posted March 12, 2012 Well i used to use Songbird instead of iTunes, but after searching google briefly, I can't tell if they are still supporting it Quote
DarkGizmo Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 Ah that's a bummer. Really would be nice to have an iTunes alternative on my linux distro. Hmm......I'll give searching google a try and see if I can find anything worthwhile. Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted March 12, 2012 Administrators Posted March 12, 2012 Maybe one of these? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_iPod_Managers#Linux Quote
mrnothersan Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I believe you can use Spotify, if you have the premium version. Spotify, I believe is available for Linux, and you only need the Premium version if you are going to sync an iPod or something I believe Quote
tss0 Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 My personal favourite is Rhythmbox, but Linux sort of sucks for multimedia. I believe Banshee is the new default in Ubuntu but it seems to me that it has more bugs than my backyard. LSongs was supposed to be good (Wasn't Linspire designed for multimedia?), but I'm not sure if they even update that anymore. As mentioned above, you could sign up for a web service like Rdio or Spotify (I recommend the former), and use their web player. Unlimited music, bro. If you have an iPhone, I'm pretty sure you're SOL. It uses a proprietary syncing mechanism that only iTunes can understand. Does iTunes run well under Wine or another Windows emulator? Quote
TheMightyEddy Posted March 21, 2012 Posted March 21, 2012 Windows Media Player is what I used to use when I haven't heard of iTunes. Quote

sam300 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I would suggest to use Amarok. It is the best alternative for iTunes for Linux. Quote
