inflame
I'm planning to buy external hard drive and I wonder would that be good choice for installing windows 7 on it, and booting system from it. It's speed is 5400 o/min (RPM).
Scotteh
I'd recommend an internal for use as a boot drive, and realistically I'd say you'd want 7200RPM minimum.
CHiLL
Booting from an external hard drive isn't recommended, because it only takes a loose cable or a knock to corrupt the operating system. Also, 5,400RPM drives are mostly laptop hard drives, which are 2.5" drives. Desktop hard drives are 3.5", which spin at 7,200RPM and offer decent transfer rates. Also, if you were fully intending on doing this, I'd recommend eSATA over USB 2.0, however, not that many computer support it.
Shaunno
if I was you I would get an internal HDD that is 7200RPM. But if your really want an external then I'd get a high quality one that is 7200RPM
inflame
I don't know what to do. My PC went bananas, and I'm using brother's. I kinda hoped to put everything I have on it on external HDD so I could use it anywhere. I guess I'll buy this but will use only removable versions of programs, without installing windows. Crazy solution, huh?
CHiLL
Installing Windows on an external hard drive to use anywhere simply wont work. The drivers will be specific to that PC/model of PC, so try it on a completely different machine, and it will probably go tits up. This is a pretty good site to look at: http://portableapps.com/
