Scotteh Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 If you're keen on knowing how computers works, I've found a brilliant web page which gives a clear indication on what the OSI model is all about: http://www.thecertificationhub.com/networkplus/the_osi_ref_model.htm Developed in 1984, the Open Systems Interconnection model, or OSI model, is the baseline for practically all networks today, it consists of 2 sets with a combined total of 7 layers. It’s the standard for worldwide communication containing multiple protocols. I found it extremely complex to get my head around but this really helped out. Quote
CHiLL Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Not the OSI model... NOOOOOO....! I thought I'd escaped it! That aside, that's a great link. Understanding the OSI model gives great insight into the inter-connectivity of different technologies, not just physical cables, but networking gear such as switches/routers/hubs/NIC as well as the operating system and applications. Scotteh Posted June 2, 2011 Author Posted June 2, 2011 I detest it haha, but this helped me out. (: Quote
