Administrators Nathan Posted March 8, 2012 Administrators Posted March 8, 2012 Everyone welcome the new members from GeekSoup.net! As of last night I purchased the website GeekSoup.net as it is in a similar niche to us. Since I have imported all the members and threads/posts. Let me know if you see anything out of place. For any users that came from GeekSoup.net please make sure to update you avatar pictures as they didn't come over during the conversion. Might want to update your profile in general. Jessi Posted March 9, 2012 Posted March 9, 2012 Awesome! I've seen mergers go wrong before, but this seems to be a good fit for topics. Hopefully the new people will feel right at home here. Welcome GeekSoupers!

bryce12 Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Welcome GeekSoup members. Hope you like it here Nathan can you share the best practices and learnings from the merger project?
Administrators Nathan Posted March 11, 2012 Author Administrators Posted March 11, 2012 Sure, it really wasn't too difficult, just time consuming. First off setup a dev environment if you don't already have one. Then you can mess with importing the database via the converters supplied by you forum software. This can take a few hours until you get the desired results. Then it's easy just backup your production database first then import. After that the imported boards should be hidden to regular members. You then have to spend the time going through each thread and then decide where to move it to within your board. After it's all done send out an email letting everyone know what happened.
DarkGizmo Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 Awesome job guys! I'm tempted to buy a forum and merge it into Revillution as well. I'm not quite sure about it yet due to a few things but congrats on the merge, DB!
