DarkGizmo
So last night I fired up my PS3 to play a game and it loaded SUPER slow. I couldn't even do anything without it crashing. I had a game downloading in the background so I deleted that, wiped out about 60GB worth of data I no longer needed on the system, rebuilt the database and file system and now it seems to be running a lot better now. I Just hope it stays this way. I'd really hate to have to replace my 500GB slim from 2010 with a 320GB one....that's taking a 180GB decrease in space... ChuckTesta
Cool Story Bro. Kidding. I wonder if this has anything to do with the same problem people were having with their gameplay while playing Skyrim. They complained of severe lag after logging like 60-90 hours of game time. Ezekiel
Well, at least your PS3 didn't die of too much space. So, is your PS3 jailbroken that's why you put your games on your hard drive? My friend has a jailbroken PS3 and he uses his hard drive to play his games. Going back, at least your PS3 survived but my friend's PS3 didn't. He tampered with his PS3 too much and he caused it to brick and he had to buy a new hard drive for his PS3. Just be careful next time, maybe you're putting too much files on your hard drive. Delete some unimportant files and you'll be fine.
tetutato
I wouldn't say it was going to die from that Did you even try rebooting before wiping all data?

It seems to me you should check your PS3's thermal paste ( that might be one of the reasons which are causing overheating ). People that jailbroke their PSPs used to have this issue all the time (bricking them by screwing around too much) before they became so damn easy to jailbreak. DarkGizmo
My PS3 ISN'T jailbroken so that's not the issue, and it's been fine since. I repaired the file system and OS and it seemed to have fixed whatever problem I was having. It also had a download that was downloading in the background which was causing some of the lag on the menus (wasn't even aware this download initiated) after cancelling that download and rebuilding the FS and OS it was working fine. ljepilo
To prevent overheating of the PS3 , the person needs to change the thermal paste of the PS3 almost every 2/3 months if its the fat version of PS3 in question. I think the newer (slim) versions are immune to the overheating,at least the first few years...

I think the newer (slim) versions are immune to the overheating,at least the first few years... I think you're right about the PS3 slim version are more immune to overheat. My PS3 is the slim version with 320GB and I play games on it a lot. I mean I could play my PS3 whole day, even my butt's giving up because of all the sitting. Even though I played hours on my PS3, I haven't experienced any overheating issues and I don't think other PS3 owners reported the same. Also is the PS3 CPU thermal paste same as how they are applied in PCs?
