Amdac Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 I'm currently running a webmaster forum that's about 2 months old. For the first month I failed horribly at obtaining advertisers. I applied at buysellads.com and once accepted, I had my first advertiser in less than a week. Now roughly a month later, all 3 ad slots are full with more in line waiting once the current campaigns expire. I couldn't be more happy with the results and highly recommend them. crumblepie 1 Quote
ChuckTesta Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 What were the prices? how much traffic are you getting? what's the process to be accepted? Quote
Amdac Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 What were the prices? how much traffic are you getting? what's the process to be accepted? Their criteria for acceptance is based on the traffic your site receives, the amount of unique content you have, and the number of current ads on your site. The site I got accepted with meets their criteria using awstats logs which is what I used at the time, but doesn't meet them via google analytics standards. According to google I'm pulling roughly 15,000 pageviews a month, buysellads.com wants at least 50,000. Regardless, I've sold all my slots at the lowest price I can set it to which is $10/month each. My site isn't huge yet but as it grows, so will the prices. It's definitely more than I was making before I signed up. Quote
ChuckTesta Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Very true. I just went to the site and submitted my site thefleer. It's banned from google adsense due to provocative images... who'd a thunk. It pulls about 70k views a month. I hope it passes! Quote
BlackHatClass Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Well, as a forum owner, I can say that ads on forums are not sold by the number of UV's or PVs, but on the activity of forum. If a lot of members are active, then you'll sell ads pretty quick. Godric 1 Quote
Godric Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Another thing they check is the thread to post ratio. 1:6-9 is average and is considered good. The more interaction the more price. BTW your forum stats are nice. How many members are active daily? And what is the amount of members from Search engines? Very true. I just went to the site and submitted my site thefleer. It's banned from google adsense due to provocative images... who'd a thunk. It pulls about 70k views a month. I hope it passes! Quote
dojo Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 That's great news, congratulations I submitted my site after 4 weeks since it was online. It's still small, averaging 150 visits/day, but has more impressions, since it's an active forum. We just sold our first ad ($8, after BSA get their commission). not that bad anyway. I hope we'll be able to get some more advertisers in the following months and be able to get back some of the initial investment and also be able to invest further in the site Quote
bryce12 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 It’s great that you managed to sell the ad slots even though your site didn’t meet the traffic requirement. This gives me inspiration to try BuySellAds for my low traffic sites. I have applied for it thinking that they would never accept low traffic sites. Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted March 15, 2012 Administrators Posted March 15, 2012 Good to hear it works, I got accepted on there a few days back, had the site on there for about 1 or 2 days then pulled it off. Maybe I should let it sit a little longer. How long did it take for you to get some advertisers? Quote

BTW your forum stats are nice. How many members are active daily? And what is the amount of members from Search engines? I've only had the site up for 100 days or so, so i don't have many members... maybe 11? most people come to the blog, read ...copy images and bounce! Only a few have signed up for newsletters. My search engine traffic counts for about 90% of all my traffic. The rest is from return visits. I've stopped ads for the site as of 2 weeks ago. Godric 1 Quote
Amdac Posted March 16, 2012 Author Posted March 16, 2012 How long did it take for you to get some advertisers? My first one was within a week. I sat on that one advertiser for about another week then posted a forum ad that pointed to the buysellads listing for my site. Within 5 days I had all 3 slots filled. Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted March 16, 2012 Administrators Posted March 16, 2012 Ah yeah, I'm seeing the problem from before, it figures your estimated monthly impressions of the data they collect after you put the ad code on your site. Since I had put mine on less than a day it was saying I was getting hardly any impressions. Going to let it run for a month and see if I start getting some people. Quote

That is still very good. That means that with proper promotional strategiess you can build it very nicely. Awesome man. Quote
crumblepie Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I remember applying to buysellads several times and being turned down because I wasn't getting enough traffic. I'm going to give them a final try. Wish me luck! Quote
Amdac Posted April 6, 2012 Author Posted April 6, 2012 I had my second site rejected a couple of weeks ago but it only had 300 posts, I plan on resubmitting it as well once it breaks the 1000 post barrier which is only about 7-10 days away. We'll see how that goes. Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted April 6, 2012 Administrators Posted April 6, 2012 I tried for about 2 weeks but no bites. I guess I could if I lower the price but not going to charge less than what I would make with Adsense. Quote

I'm not sure if you have an account on WHT, but I believe most of my ad sales came from that site. Any time a slot opens up, I post an ad there and within 1-2 days someone buys it. So far it's worked well. Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted April 6, 2012 Administrators Posted April 6, 2012 Ah damn nope didn't try that. What's WHT? Quote
Amdac Posted April 6, 2012 Author Posted April 6, 2012 Ah damn nope didn't try that. What's WHT? webhostingtalk.com - I generally get great results from their marketplace due to the mass number of people that see it. Quote
Siddharth Ramakrishnan Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Just applied for BSA and my forum has more than 300uniques. Let me wait for the result! Quote
TheMightyEddy Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Buy, Sell, Ads is probably the biggest site for buying and selling ads. I have a lot of good friends on there that have been very successful. Quote

Going to give it a try, need 10 posts first and their 180/seconds between posts is killing me Quote
