Administrators Nathan Posted March 15, 2012 Administrators Share Posted March 15, 2012 Anonymous has now released an OS. It's based on Ubuntu flavor of Linux for "Educational Purposes". Would anyone here try it? Some people are freaking out that it will be packed with trojans, maybe. Some are also saying that someone else released it claiming to be Anonymous for publicity. Wouldn't want to be that person They will find you. It 21,000 Downloads @ 5am this morning and was just released today! Source
CHiLL
I thought this was fake at first. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. Given their antics over recent months, who knows what they've hidden away somewhere in the OS. Nathan
Administrators Nathan Posted March 16, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted March 16, 2012 Haha, yeah not sure why it would be worth the risk. I didn't read that it did anything that spectacular. Just download Ubuntu on it's own. ChuckTesta
Godric
I had a really bad experience with TOR. I got BSOD in about 7 minutes with normal browsing. SO i think Anonymous browsing is good, but there are also good OS for them. I forgot their names. They arent actually that publicized. Godric
TOR? [/Quote] Yeah its a virtual network of proxy and real addresses all over the internet. Unfortunately it's also hacked and spammed a lot. Also it is the gateway to deepweb. Be careful. The best is to use good firewalls and antivirus or the best that I use is run a Virtual XP and surf away. Here is a link to TOR browser. https://www.torproject.org Have fun.
mrnothersan
I definitely wouldn't touch it. I would think it would be packed with malware, trojans and other nasty things and would definitely not want any of that infecting my computer! TheMightyEddy
To me, it sounds legit as the Anonymous hacker group is respected for it's great hacking skills. They are now wanting more reputation from this OS.
kreso93
I wouldn't risk it, I don't know. Sounds suspicious to me. You don't even know if it's from "Anonymous" or not.
ScottCFR
The official Anon group released a statement saying that they didn't have a hand in it. Just to be safe, I wouldn't use it. But, more then likely it's just the creators making an attempt on a massive bot net. merlyn73
DarkGizmo
I wouldn't use it. I'd slap ubuntu or xubuntu or mint on my netbook first before putting something from Anon on any of my machines.
Thrill
Short answer, no. All those people that may use it, will just be potential hackees. DarkGizmo
TheMightyEddy
Short answer, no. All those people that may use it, will just be potential hackees. That's true but there's only one way to find out, to download it ourselves.
sam300
Well I would suggest not to use it, it may contain a backdoor or something more shittier.
merlyn73
No way. I doubt seriously that there is anything you can get from this OS that you couldn't get from a fresh Ubuntu install and a little know how. Most likely the Feds released this anyway... ljepilo
The OS itself looks interesting, but nothing special. Here is an tutorial for those who wanna use it,but don't know how to set it up :
Fallace
I bet it's safe to use; I don't see anonymous as being the type to bug a homebrew OS. The thing about them, is they attack big targets for their own brand of "justice," and that likely doesn't include your average wannabe hackers! ljepilo
Well these guys just copied Linux OS , its 99% same as Linux ...
bryce12
My only concern would be that they have built some hidden code which allows them to hijack our computers and make them participate in large scale DDOS attacks. Still I would give it a try on a spare machine and see how it works. I imagine that it would be a lot less buggy than Windows
CHiLL
Well these guys just copied Linux OS , its 99% same as Linux ... Linux is 99% same as Linux, because they're all based on the same source code.
ljepilo
Linux is 99% same as Linux, because they're all based on the same source code. You mean the Anonymous OS?
Victor Leigh
Why are we assuming that this os is from that Anonymous group? The name Anonymous isn't copyrighted, is it? And also why do we assume that it's full of tricks and traps?
CHiLL
You mean the Anonymous OS? No, other ones such as Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, etc. Edited May 29, 2012 by CHiLL
ridwan sameer
An operating system created by the biggest group of hackers? I think I'll pass merlyn73
merlyn73
An operating system created by the biggest group of hackers? I think I'll pass I'm pretty sure it was actually created by whatever department of the FBI who investigates cyber-crime. It just doesn't make sense for them (Anonymous) to create an OS like this when it's a given that most of their members are already experienced computer users.
