http://site-reference.com/articles/how-many-of-these-10-social-media-blunders-are-you-committing/

Here's a few of them:

5. Too much brand-related content

Avoid excessive chatter about your website or company. Similar to sales overload, brand overload is also annoying even if you are not directly selling in your posts. Add valuable content your audience wants to hear and you will indirectly attract people to your brand.

6. Infrequent posting

One Facebook post a week is not enough to show your audience you want to engage with them. In fact, it can appear that you business lacks the funds to continue your social media campaigns, which portrays a lack of success. Post at least 3-4 times a week on Facebook and several times a day on Twitter. Notice how your audience responds and over time you will find your posting sweet spot.

7. Off-time posting

Simply posting won’t get the job done. If your fans/followers don’t see your post, you will never grow your profiles. The best times to post will be dependent on your audience and the specific time of day.

Are you guilty of making these sorts of mistakes? Do you find that social media isn't really bringing you the results you thought it would then?

I'm really bad at off-time posting so switched to just not posting entirely for the last while. The time I have free is often in the middle of the night when no one is really around and listening anyway, so what's the point?

I had an interesting white paper on the best times and days for posting on FB... it actually made sense. Early evening hours combined with, I believe, Thursday through Saturday (Thursday because it was the lowest overall posting day so you have less clutter to cut through, Friday because people are already "checked out" of work mentally and want to play... but by Sunday they're trying to get organized for the week.)

I'll see if I can find it.

Is there anyway to schedule your posts on FB? Actually i live on the other side of world. So it would be cool if i can just, keep it scheduled and it automatically gets posted at the given time without my intervention.

Nope, don't pay much attention to my social media, I don't wanna be a typical facebook/twitter addict. Its just not really worth it or interesting.

As a matter of fact, once you go viral on social media sites, you can get a lot of traffic, subscribers and revenues in the long run. Plus, that adds to your credibility.

Your list of 10 Social Media mistakes are spot-on! Granted there is a lot more that can be communicated to business owners to help educate them on how to utilize social media and marketing within that realm to help their businesses succeed, but you’ve covered some critical points, well done! As a web designer and social media marketer myself I can vouch for what you’re saying here. Thank you for helping to inform the masses, people need to understand this stuff because it’s not going away anytime soon.

It's such a bear to keep track of all the social media. I'm not good at posting religiously on all social sites. I usually post stuff on pinterest and that's about it. It's almost like you need a social media moderator to keep stuff fresh and relevant.

This is basically how I feel about this.. with so many platforms these days, it's tough...

I mean you've got: YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Myspace, and so on... the list never ends.
