Administrators Nathan Posted March 19, 2012 Administrators Share Posted March 19, 2012 Anyone know how long it takes for Google to start indexing you site again? I had a dev environment setup and was redesigning a site. Within Wordpress I blocked bots. Then once I was done moved the site over and then turned off the "block search engines" setting. Google Webmaster Tools still shows as though I'm blocking the bots via Robots.txt, but I turned this off over 12 hours ago. I tested my site out on: http://phpweby.com/services/robots and it says all bots are allowed, so I'm guess Google just needs to refresh. Administrators Nathan Posted March 19, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted March 19, 2012 Ah ok, looks like I'll have to be a little more patient then.
mrnothersan
I know it takes 2-3 weeks when you've just added your website, but not sure what it is if you've edited something. It might be the same, or it might be much quicker. I am sure there is an article on it somewhere.
Administrators Nathan Posted March 19, 2012 Author Administrators Share Posted March 19, 2012 Ah you were right on the 24 hours, like clock work it checked it again and I'm good to go. @mrnothersan: Mine was a 4 year old site I didn't mean to block, so guessing that's why it came back quickly. DarkGizmo
Depends on a few things, how old the site is, etc. I'd say 12 hours sounds about right for editing a robots.txt file. It took about 10 hours for me when I edited my robots.txt file.
