Godric
This is what it says on the website. BTW the name is Rainmeter. Rainmeter displays customizable skins, like memory and battery power, RSS feeds and weather forecasts, right on your desktop. Many skins are even functional: they can record your notes and to-do lists, launch your favorite applications, and control your media player - all in a clean, unobtrusive interface that you can rearrange and customize to your liking. Rainmeter is at once an application and a toolkit. You are only limited by your imagination and creativity. Download LINK Here is my one. My memory usage is just 16 MB at full load. Use it and post your skins too. Nathan

Administrators Nathan Posted April 2, 2012 Administrators Share Posted April 2, 2012 Does it load down your computer at all? Godric
CHiLL
It certainly does look nice, but that sort of thing doesn't appeal to me any more
Collin1000
Does it load down your computer at all? Agreed, need to know this. Lots of those "look cool" desktop extendors are serious load hogs. deadmauslov and Godric
Godric
Does it load down your computer at all? Agreed, need to know this. Lots of those "look cool" desktop extendors are serious load hogs. Atmost it needed 15Mb in my Laptop with win 7-64bit with 4 Gb ram. This is the best of its class and the most lightweight tool I have ever used , And this is a totally unbiased review. Try it and see. This is totally free and open source.
DarkGizmo
Very cool. I'd use it if I wasn't on just 4GB memory. My next PC will more then likely have 8GB minimum so I might try it then
psufootball
Ah Rainmeter, I use it too. It's a pretty cool utility and very lightweight all things considered. I use both it and Fences for my desktop to make it look sexy.
KevinN
Thank you for the share. Will try it out a bit later.
Administrators Nathan Posted May 10, 2012 Administrators Share Posted May 10, 2012 Finally took the time to try it out, I like the system stats at a glance. Still learning how the feeds work. Godric
Godric
Nice to know that you will be trying it now. Also congrats on the 1000 posts. I will be there soon too. Just a bit busy with real life now.
tosaytheleast
I have tried it earlier this year and I was impressed at first but it slowed down my system lately so I have to give up the looks to get better performance. Really nice visual customization software though. Just needs a lot of RAM.
bryce12
Looks like it is not for me since my computer is a bit old. Still it doesn't hurt to give it a try and see if it actually improves my productivity. Thanks for the link.

tetutato
Wait this is for Windows? Will it work on my Win 7? deadmauslov
JimBobIV
Yeah, it's for Windows, and works from at least XP all the way through 8. As for it being a memory hog, I don't know where people get that idea. With any of the default or recommended skin packs, I've never seen it eat more than 40MB or so of RAM. I've used it without problems on machines with 1GB or 2GB or RAM. deadmauslov
Victor Leigh
I am now on Linux. I will have to boot up my Windows 8. Just for trying out though because I like to keep my Windows as bare as possible to run World of Warcraft at the best possible speed. That's the downside of using an old machine. CHiLL
So basically this will replace my desktop? D: How will I change it back? It isn't a replacement, more of a different theme/look. You can change it back in the themes I presume, or simply uninstalling the application from Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features. Marc
These things always seem to eat my resources, and Im quite picky with my resources LOL. Looks very cool though m8

deadmauslov
This looks really cool, but I have a program that allows me to connect remotely to my job. The program was downloaded onto my system by my employer. How will this affect that?
ridwan sameer
Doesn't takle that much resources Marc... 4GB Ram is more than enough to run this
tetutato
By the way I've been using this but I can only get the side display. How to replace everything including the desktop taskbar, etc. like shown in the screenshots?
