I've just picked up some more good domain names (at least, I think they're good) and I'd like to put a user-generated picture gallery on a couple of them... but I have little experience of this, so I'm looking for recommendations.

Ideally, it'd be a standard register-login-upload-rate-comment kind of thing: thumbnails main page with bigger pics on click (watermarked), ability to upload their own pics (approval system required) but not to separate galleries all the time, like most apps seem to do. I just want one big gallery. Favourites, profiles, the usual other stuff. Monetisation via ads, of course.

My host offers easy installs for Coppermine, Gallery, ZenPhoto, Pixelpost and 4images, but I really don't care if I have to set something up myself - as long as it's easy to get running and maintain. I really don't want to have to spend several hours doing the basic setup if I can avoid it.

Any suggestions from personal experience?

I have tried Zenphoto, Pixelpost in the past; they were good but not great. If you are willing to design an app from scratch, I'd highly recommend that you follow this path. The problem with standard solutions is that they do not have provide flexibility to add your own features. Creating a bespoke solution is your best bet if you are looking for a features rich app.

As I said: "My host offers easy installs for Coppermine, Gallery, ZenPhoto, Pixelpost and 4images". Are you recommending Gallery or just asking if I've seen it?

As I said: " I really don't want to have to spend several hours doing the basic setup if I can avoid it." That kinda rules out coding from scratch just to have something that works.
