How effective is promotion via Sigs in forums?

I tried advertising with forum signatures. The thing is I got many visitors but hardly anyone converted.

 

Anyone has better luck or some better tips and tricks.

 

BTW I was promoting a free Gift.

 

And I posted 100 posts in 4 forums.

 

Visitors were 176, 23 clicks 0 conversions.

I can say the link you promoted was not in the niche of the forum you were promoting on..

They were on a similar niche as the precise niche is absent. But I will give it a try again.

I think links work great... if you're an active member!! People will pass it off as spam if you are an active member and actually contribute to the site. If you're just a random joe who made a quick 100 posts... don't expect much to come of it. Especially after your posts are hidden as time goes by.

I agree with ChuckTesta, you got to be patient before you see the desired results. The thing with forum marketing is that people will only trust you if you have been a member of forum for some time and genuinely try to help people. Another thing you can try is keep your profile up to date and link to your site, twitter and facebook pages so that people are aware of what you are up to.
