TheDespite
I've used a free hosting service called Freehostia I remember it used to lag like A LOT with all the database queries. I don't know if it works better these days, but it seems to be still up at least. Here's a link for you: http://www.freehostia.com/index2.html And here's a pic for you! Thomas
For hosting I've always used x10Hosting (https://x10hosting.com/ for free http://x10premium.com/ for premium) and never had any problems except when I was stupid enough to try and tackle and had to get them to bail me out. I've used both there Free and Premium hosting and there always just a support ticket away.
Hardison
I recommend Freehostia too. The best part is that there are no ads on your sites and the uptimes are solid. The downside is that they don't use Cpanel.
vaudevillianvet
Freehostia is pretty good for a free webhost. Also, I recommend hostable for shared hosting. It's not particularly high capacity, but it was cheap when I bought in (not sure about now) and fast enough for low volume sites (less than a few hundred daily visitors). TheMightyEddy
Freehostia looks like a good free host but it's not enough space for me. It all depends on what kind of site you're wanting to make.
tetutato
I've used http://www.000webhost.com/ before I moved onto paid hosting but they seemed decent. I suggest you give them a try.

DarkGizmo
Free hosts and Post2Host solutions are usually "You get what you pay for" sort of deal to be honest.

I'm sure he already knows that but still, who knows, there might be a real-good hidden deal out there.
antwanmon
I have used 000webhost and I think it is probably the best free host out there. It is perfect for small scale stuff and isn't as low quality as the other free hosts. I would just stick with 000webhost because it has its drawbacks, but is still reliable. If you want a paid host then I would go with HostGator, they have great prices.
