Need help to build traffic for a new site/forum

But here is another way I used. Use Microworkers and Minuteworkers. Hire workers to spread the word about your site to similar sites. They'll even spread to competing sites for you without you yourself getting in any trouble. All you have to do is be specific in what you want/ how you want it and let them do the work for you.

It is the first time I heard such service. How do they work? Through normal means of posting or spam? I hate spam you know lol. Every time someone came to my forum or my main site to post a spam link I hated it so much. I don't want to give my site a bad name by allowing my site is being spammed everywhere.

Did you see any results from using their service? How much? Got a link?

Unfortunately, that's the problem with the Facebook way of doing it. Even with you offering money it's a gripe. I can relate because that's the same thing my site had an issue with.

There has to be the first reply in each thread. :) I don't see it as a reason for people not to making the first reply.

Well, since the main point is to stimulate activity, I'd rather find something else other than talking to myself. Such as hired posters.

Just how many minimal active members do you need in order to start a snowball?

You only need to have two persons to start a conversation. Works in real life and works in cyber space, too. Don't you have a family member or a friend whom you can talk into being your posting partner for, say, a week. That should be enough to get things rolling.

Ok, Microworkers is basically a freelance online work site. People get paid to do all sorts of internet tasks on it.

But what you would have to do is set certain requirements so that if you have to post about your site it ISN'T spam. Have people only post to sites that they are already long time members to for example. That right there will take care of the spam problem itself because they wouldn't want to mess up their own personal standing at whatever site they post it to.

See, it just takes a little thought

It would be fine with just two people only if the other person is willing to do what I want him/her to do. I am not even asking much, just do the best to reply to every thread to continue a conversation. Unfortunately there is no such person. I tried to ask real world friends. None seem to be interested enough to keep their word. "I'd love to", "I'll see what I can do", "I'll help you to lift the forum off the ground", "I'll post as much as I can"... the result? None visit more than once a week. Many never bothered to sign up, and some only visit once and make a single post every time I asked and then never return until I ask again then make another 1 post....

Say, I have gone through this thread twice already but I still cannot find the link to your site. I think my old eyes must be failing me. How about giving the link to your site so that I can go over and have a look around? I am not an expert on pets but I have kept quite a few, including Dobermanns, Shih Tzus, Poodles, Bangkeaws, Siameses, Persians, Chinchillas, Arowanas, just to name a few. Maybe I can do something to give you a hand there.

That's exactly what it is.

But remember, you have to be specific in how you want things done in all three of these sites. These are proven to help build traffic. But you HAVE to be precise in what you want to the letter.

I wasn't sure if I am allowed to post a link to my forum, until I saw an "ok" post from a mod in another thread of mine. I have posted it there.

But here we go.

Thank you for the link. Now I can go over there to have a look around. Do you still need any help there?

Yes, please. I need all the help I can get. It is hard to get active members who can make good posts. Not just good informative posts, but also lack of good questions that can allow experienced pet owners to make informative replies.

I am a fish keeper myself, I can answer a lot of questions in the fish section with useful information.

In other sections, not so much. I can only reply with my opinions.

Thanks!

I've read it somewhere that a forum need minimal 20 active members in order to sustain itself. I've been trying to get some of my real friends to help, but none of them keep their words which sucks. :( There probably had been over total 20 active members since the forum was launched, but since they didn't join at the same time, some quit after seeing not enough activities. So there were never total 20 active members. Not even close.

20 active members is a lot bigger than people expect. Have a count up whilst your posting of how many active member there are on here, I'll bet there are not 20 yet. Getting members active is one battle, the main battle however is making people come back and for that you gotta give them reason to do so.

I would think the main reason for anyone who keep returning to a forum is to check out new posts and replies that might be interesting to them. Since a new forum lacks active members to make adequate amount of new posts, it is hard to keep people coming even when I do my best to post as much as I can.

What other good reasons can you offer for people to come back? Just want some other opinions. :)

A lot of people will hang out in a forum because of the friendly atmosphere in the forum. So if you make a section where your members can just chat about everything under the sun, then you may see more members coming back even if they have nothing to say about pets.

By the way about that microworkers site, why not just use freelancer which is way more bigger to my knowledge?

Link?

Simple enough: the minimum fee and the bidding process. Freelancer (.com, Nathan) is one of the bidding sites, which means it's not designed for micro-jobs like Microworkers (MTruk, Minifreelance, et al).

At Freelancer, you'll have to fork out a minimum amount and no one will go through all the bidding hassle just for a 10c job. At Microworkers, they'll pick it off the list and do it as one of their daily run because they just have to do it, not go through the whole interview process.

Every forum has an off-topic section, mine has it too.

I don't think an off-topic discussion forum will be the reason for most people to stay. Since they can find such forum everywhere.
