Godric Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 QUESTION But isn't Google looking to kill PageRank because of people manipulating it as it is. I remember reading some article where they were like just forget about pagerank because they're gonna eliminate it soon and it won't even be a factor. ANSWER If they eliminate PR, they'll replace it with something else - people want some way to measure their "importance" in the search rankings, even if it's pretty arbitrary. Although I can see Google reducing the impact of PR on SERP, I can't really see them totally eliminating it - at least not without replacing it with something else, which amounts to the same thing. Yes, page rank is eliminated already. But its just people who still shout about it. The reason for closing of page rank is the manipulation as well. If you ever been on flippa then you would have seen that a PR 2 Domain sells for 60-120$ a piece, which is a total junk as the PR was manipulated. CityGirlLuv 1 Quote

Not necessarily: it's surprisingly easy to hit PR2 without making much effort. Getting PAST that mark is much more difficult, especially once you get to 4 or 5. It gets really tough around there. Incidentally, when you say "page rank is eliminated already", I assume you mean it doesn't really mean much. Quote

I'm pretty sure that's what Godric mean, and at the same time, it just doesn't mean a thing to continue even wondering about. Just like keywords are starting to become faded out if they haven't already because of the changes Google is making. Quote

Or did you mean the meta keyword tag (which is totally dead as far as Google's concerned)? Godric 1 Quote

They might go alterations but they will always stay. As for the meta tag: I dont really do that much. I have seen a few case studies, where the result is very minor improvement. Quote
bryce12 Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 iWriter is a decent place to find good writers at an affordable price. Make sure that you create an Elite project to attract the best rated writers that they have. Alternatively you can also choose best rated writers and send a project request to them. Godric 1 Quote
Ram8349 Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 Some popular web sites somehow are able to get people to write for them for free. Overclockers.com for example, I asked their admin and some of the writers. They don't get paid to write. Just look at the amount of articles they update so frequently. They are also quite well written too. I am only able to get two people writing me total two articles so far. There are more people "promised", but promises means nothing these days. They all went back on their words. Paying seem to be the unavoidable if I want to have a decent size of article base. By the way, I am at the crossroad of not knowing which way is the best for my site/forum. I get just above 100 visitors a day, and I get only around 5 active members posting on forum. I have only total 9 articles and 7 of them were written by myself. So in order to get tons of active members to make the forum kick off, which one should be be focusing on? More articles for attracting search engine traffic? Or more advertising to get members? Quote

So in order to get tons of active members to make the forum kick off, which one should be be focusing on? More articles for attracting search engine traffic? Or more advertising to get members? That depends on what you want your site to be. Look at Developerbase, for example: I have never, ever read an article here. But that's because - to me - this is a forum, where I come to discuss stuff with smart, friendly folks. I don't see it as anything else. Now, that probably annoys Nathan & co. because - to them - the site is a lot more. You need to decide what you want your site to be. Is it going to be a discussion forum or an information site? If you're targetting the former, you just need posters (so something like Postloop and a lot of time should work). If you're targetting the latter, you need content (and posters if you want the forum to be a big part of the site). It all comes down to the question site owners should always ask themselves BEFORE they build a site: what's the goal? Without that, you're just floundering along trying to make the best of everything. From your comments (and forgive me if I've already said this - it's been a while since this thread was updated), it sounds like you want an active forum. The content is therefore secondary: what matters is getting members and getting them active. Postloop for the initial boost, forum posting with a signature for visibility, blog commenting, talk to other animal people on Twitter and the other social networks (Dogs Trust, Cats Protection and RSPCA are all really friendly), see if there are places you can leave a link on other animal sites (PetMD, etc.). IMHO, at least. Quote
dexterlablab1 Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Not to sound cheap or anything, but if this is for the sole purpose of traffic, then why not write your own articles. Not only will you save a ton of money, but at least you'd have total control over the content in the article. Don't outsource for something you more than likely don't have to. That money can be better spent on your site itself. Quote

ridwan sameer Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Maybe you should try a few writing forums.....some people new to the busines charges very low and provide high quality aswell Quote

I don't believe in writing something without first hand experience. Sure we can find info online, but without first hand experience the writing is just not the same. Rather than paying money, why don't you take the guest and sponsored blogger way. Its almost free. Just give them a backlink A permanant contextual from the blog post and another footer link for a specified period. How would you proceed without even enough people signing up on forum? How do you find those people who are willing to write for free? Quote

Add the articles later, when the site grows (and you can convert stuff people post into articles with their permission). How would you proceed without even enough people signing up on forum? How do you find those people who are willing to write for free? The easiest way I've found is to look for people with something to sell. Pet sites that offer stuff for pets, that post pet pictures or whatever - yes, they're the competition in a way but they're also not stupid: if they can get traffic from another pet site, they will. Let them write an article about something they offer, cloaked in advice about pets, and post it with a link. Free content. I'd definitely go Postloop for the forum posts, though. Make sure you switch off post counting in the off-topic areas and lay down some fairly strict rules: set minimum level to around 4 or 4.2 or something, tell them you'll delete posts that are vague, unhelpful or what I call "nothing posts" - you know, those ones that are "What's your favourite lizard?" just for the points... sorted. Marc Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Ahhh, I knew I had read you run a pet forum somewhere LOL. Glad about that as I thought I was going mental. So in answer to your question. I will write you a few articles for your site. I run a husky forum so have a few things I could put up there which are canine related. Quote
Victor Leigh Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Let me see if I have got this right. What you are looking for is someone who: 1. Has reared pets. 2. Has written about pets. 3. Is prepared to be active on your forums to answer questions about pets. Right? Well, I know someone who: 1. Has reared 1 Bangkeaw, 1 Dobermann, 3 Poodles, 1 Shih Tzu, 1 Miniature Pinscher, 2 Persians, I Chinchilla, 2 Arowanas, (plus turkeys, Muscovies, Red Leghorns and Peking ducks, too, if you count those as pets); 2. Is active on two forums about pets, one exclusively about dogs and the other exclusively about dogs; 3. Has written more than twenty articles to populate an entire website about movies starring cats and dogs; Does that fit your requirements? If admin allows it, I can post the links to his written work which has been published online, so that you can see for yourself how he writes. Quote

Victor Leigh Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 Y'know, Vic, talking about yourself in the third person is a sign of losing your sanity... at least, when you're not part of the royal family it is. You got that part-way right. However I doubt if I am going to lose my sanity anytime soon, since I don't think I have any in the first place, to start with. I always think of myself as one old, mad man. Used to be one young, crazy guy but things change with the passing of time. As for the link to royalty, I have been informed by reliable sources that I am either (a) related to the Thai royal family or ( descended from the last emperor of the Ching dynasty. I have not followed up on that yet because I haven't quite decided which line of thought is more worthy of pursuit. Quote
