So a few days ago i decided to switch a TON of my computer stuff around. I went to bing and started my personal account setup and switch my computers default search engine to Bing.

The main reason for this drastic change is because of the rewards program. So after the change, i decided to do some comparisons. On a few of my search terms that i use, Google had me ranked on the first page while Bing has me on the third page.

With that in mind i decided to start an ad campaign on Bing to try and level the fields a bit. It's been roughly 4 days since this change and i've noticed 150% increase in traffic to my site from bing. It seems Bing has quite a bit of users.

I'm really hoping to jump into the bing market and grab some of the traffic. I think Bing can be a great resource for us developers.

Has anyone else used their advertising service? The rates are basically identical to google. I tend to stay away from CPM, and choose CPC. It seems to give better results when comparing Conversion rates.

Bing is the worst se I think, although it is compatible with XBox ect, but Google is 10x better, it is one of the companies that are a little bit slang, for example, they say Nope, whilst others would say No ect. But it's up to you, what do you prefer, what gives you better results.

I remember when Bing first rolled out and I tried advertising with them and barely got a thing. At the same time, not that many people were using Bing. I think the increase of traffic to Bing may be because of Google's Panda. I do like their rewards program too as that's always a nice perk :).

A few months earlier and I would have said Google. Now, im not so sure. Google recently brought a new licence where every information will be kept and so forth. Honestly, I've never used Bing and probably wont. I guess Im doing just fine with google. I have nothing to hide anyway.

Nevertheless I've heard that Bing is actually very good as well.

I don't see them ever taking off. Google is a house hold name now. No one says, "Let me go search that on the internet". They say, "Hold on let me Google it", or "I just Google'd it".

Exactly. "Google" is even a word now which can be found in different dicionaries. I have even heard people say "I Googled it on Bing". Edited by Thomas

That is pretty clever. :)

But yes everyday when someone wants to search something they just say I will google it. But the correct term should be I will search it on Google. Even though Google is not only a search engine. Everyone knows when I say I will google something that I am referring to the search engine.

Hah, you're right. Imagine if Bing became more popular and people saying "I'll Bing it".

I won't be surprised if they bring in the word 'Bing'it'

I've never advertised with them before. I'm sure I could up my traffic by doing so, but I don't tend to advertise much right now anyway, so kind of a moot point for me.

I -do- take notice of SEO tips for Bing, though. I see no reason I can't get traffic from -both- search engines instead of focusing on one or the other entirely.

I personally have only tried Bing a few times, and every single time I've not been able to get to grips with the major differences it has to Google. However, I have not tried the Bing advertising system and I'm interested in what you're saying about it. Although, I'd think that the prices should be lower than those of Google... After all, Bing is less established.

I agree with you. Bing just seem'd to get into xbox but google is 100 times better. It's also way more famous owning youtube and other big named sites.

I agree, that's what I say. If someone asks me a question online I just tell them to google it lol.

Then there's this sarcastic site lol

Personally I think the chances of the word "bing" displacing the word "google" to mean "look it up on the net" is somewhere between zero and zilch. The main reason why I feel so is that words which have found their way into daily usage are not easy to dislodge. Over time, the meaning of the word "google" may change slightly but, as far as I see, the word "google" will still be in use in another one hundred years' time.

This is not to say that Google, the company, will still be around at that time. It may or it may not. There are not many precedents to go by because cyber businesses have not been around for that long yet. Only thing that is sure is that many companies that were sure things in their heyday are now surely dead.
