ashimashi Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Any of you guys heard of a programming language by the name of "turing". It was a very basic thing I learned a couple years ago in high school. It was a great thing to start with because it is really easy and you can build on from it. For example if you wanted text then you simplify write: put "hi" And it will write hi. Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted April 29, 2012 Administrators Posted April 29, 2012 Never have. Are you talking about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_(programming_language) Quote
ashimashi Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 Yes that is the one. It is a very uncommon language which is used to make small and simple programs with. Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted April 29, 2012 Administrators Posted April 29, 2012 Not efficient enough for large environments then I guess? Quote
ashimashi Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 No not really. Basically a programming language to help you get started. The most you could do with it would be to make a simple game like PacMan. But I remember the thing was full of bugs. But it is really old and there hasn't been an update for it in around 25 years or so. Quote
Thomas Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 November 25, 2008 was the late update but according to Wiki the comapny no longer exists. Quote
CityGirlLuv Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Never heard of it, but it seems like it'd be an interesting thing to have in modern times. Too bad the company doesn't exist anymore. Just imagine the vast number of programs we could have today that's built on it alone. Quote
bryce12 Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I heard about the language but never got to learn or use it. I think the reason it never became popular was that it could not prove that it could handle complex programming tasks and environment. It's sad to see that the company has closed down but then even much bigger companies have been closed or acquired by bigger corporations. Quote
