Anyone made any games before?

I coded a game using Java before and it was a pretty great game. I will share it when I find it.

Did anyone else make a game before? If so what?

Mine was a kinda like a maze game combined with the "worlds hardest game".

I am planning on starting a game for mobile soon. But I still have some work to do before I can do that.

I've created a small text base RPG. It was scripted in C++ for a project in college. It was very basic but if anyone wants to have a look I'd be happy to show it.

Other then that in another assignment we did use Game Maker to create a game. Anyone that wants to get into games development but doesn't want to enter right away into the scripting side feel free to have a look at Game Maker. It is a lovely tool for starting off in the big old gaming world!

I've only started dabbling, I wanted to build a full on graphics engine. Thus far its only been the usual 2d games (classic, pong, snake, etc).

At some point I do indent on doing a bunch on tutorials on creating 2d games.

But alas full time work and other on going projects means it something I have left to the back burner..

I am not a big coder or a gamer either so I only made one game a while ago. It was something like a classic. Not sure anyone played the "Worlds hardest game", but I made something related to that.

I began working on a project last year with very talented team of 30. This included modellers, texture artists, concept artists, programmers, testers, actors... However, unfortunately I had to cancel it due to being unable to secure enough funding for the game to continue and be released.

I used to use Game Maker to make some basic, yet pretty cool little games. It has its own language that is easy to use but very powerful for some cool games, apparently it's similar to like C++ (I think.. might be something else though).

Browser based games are hugely popular at the moment.

I would highly suggest learning HTML5 and canvas, and if your feeling up to it webGL.

In my view html5 games are amazing, you need nothing more than notepad and a browser and you can create almost anything you want!

And the result will run on almost anything..

Sounds good! I'll try to learn the basics of HTML5 and see what I can do.

I've made a few, the most recent one was a stealth-based game on Unity3D and I'm currently working on a game aimed at children based on "the Neverending Story", though this time I'm working as both coder and artist.

I've been planning on doing some new tutorials, I might just make the next one on a basic html5 game?

What do you guys think?

Of course it would have to be cross Forum post, heh :) i.e. it will get posted up on "The IT Ninja" and here too.

As much as I like PC gaming, games are probably what I program the least. In my first CS class, which mostly focused on basic to intermediate Java, we did some small stuff, like a Pong clone and a small turn-based/item grab game. I've been thinking for ages about trying to build my own roguelike game, but I've never really had the time or inspiration to do it.

This post reminds me of the time when we used to code and play simple DOS based games. It was easy to see the source code of DOS based games and it was fun to decode how the developers made them. Sadly my tryst with games didn't continue but it would be fun to code some games just for the heck of it.

My friends told me that most video games made by programming students or the like ended up on Y8 and other browser gaming websites. My friend told me he's working on a game, similar to the RPG game Ragnarok and he was asking me for ideas, so I gave him some. That happened weeks ago, I don't know if he went through with it but I hope he does I want to play his game.

Also, I remembered my uncle made a game too. It was a game similar yet again to Ragnarok Online. The game was great and seeing his game made me want to become a programmer but when I got older I realized that it was really challenging, so I pursued another dream, lol.

I have made some small stuff in Python, but nothing too great. When I first began, I thought I would programming games easily until I really learnt how difficult they are to make. I think new stuff, like HTML 5 as mentioned above, is paving the way for easier game development. I would really like to get into HTML 5 because it looks simple yet effective.
