When you do backlink building, do you check the PR and traffic of the page where you about to add your own link? Do you have a minimal requirement on the page PR and/or traffic?

Out of bookmark sites, blogs comments, related forums, etc. which one is the best for link building?

I don't think being picky is a good idea, not just for looking natural, but sometimes people flick to the back of the Google search results (I did that in Highschool to get past the blocked sites). It's just as important to get those visitors, especially if it only takes 5 minutes to secure an extra dozen or more visitors.

I think it's an extremely good idea to have a mix of all types of backlinks. It's also a very good idea to have a mx of dofollow and nofollow backlinks too. Google is becoming very strict and any unnatural looking or low quality backlinking will definately make your site take a plunge, especially after the penguin update.

Having backlinks is a big part to having a good PR ranking of your own also having a good alexa rating is mainly backlinks.. So having a good mix of high and low PR ranks is better than all high. Because like Nathan said it will look unnatural to Google. It takes time to have good backlnks so just be patient with it.

I have always gone for the approach of having my link on every single page on the internet I can get it onto. Google at the end of the day is a program that follows links, and regardless of how its programed I have always been of the opinion that the more the better. I can honestly say its done my site nothing but good.

But it is extremely hard to post the link everywhere without spam. I had perfect legit answers on some similar niche forums with links back to my articles for more information, and a few of them were removed for "serve no purpose". I say they were removed for being a competitor in the same niche.

Many of the free diectories also brought tons of email spam... they must have sold the email address I registered with.

Backlinking has been turned on its head by Google, indeed now you have to be careful about the types of links that you build. Gone are the days when you could rank higher just by blasting links from blog comments and forum profiles. Nowadays you should get links from diverse sources as well as have plenty of anchor text variation. There are many sources to get backlinks and you should use all of them.

I mostly agree with this. But you really should be somewhat selective of where your backlinks are placed.. Like for example, what could do back links to a site like this do if they're placed on a porn site?

This might be a silly question. What is "anchor text"?

There are no silly questions, except the one not asked. Anchor text is the text in which the url or website address is links

I hope this sample works in here

<a href="mywebsite" target="blank to create an open browser if you wish">This is my anchor text</a>

Thanks. That is very clear. My guess was wrong, I thought it's the message you have with the link.

The anchor text can't be there all the time. Many places you can post your link can't have hyperlink. For example, on Yahoo Answers, you can't do that. On forums however, it works.

So dont post on the same kinda forums as your own. You own a pet forum at the end of the day, how many people on other sites have pets? ;)

More people have pets than you think. :) Half the household in the U.S. have one or more pets. The number is also increasing.

Pet forum is also for people who don't yet have pets but plan to have pets.

I didn't post on the same kind of forum. My forum is for ALL pets. Most forums out there are about a specific species.

I have a sneaky suspicion that browser bookmarks are a solid ranking tool once again, especially if bookmarked in Chrome. When someone cares enough about your site to bookmark it they essentially are telling Google they like it and as with all data available Google will be gathering this information. It wouldn't make sense to ignore it, especially since most SEO's don't spend any time actively collecting bookmarks.
