This has got me looking up Pinterest clones. Seems like that price range is about right. Not that I would pay for it. At the moment, I am looking into some Wordpress templates which claim to do what Pinterest is doing. Have to try them out first-hand to really know.

So I ended up purchasing the $200 one from http://www.pinterestclones.com/ .

I'm pretty far from impressed....

I purchased the product and there was no instant download. I had to wait almost 24 hours before anyone returned my email on where to download the software. On their site they claim it's instant, but no it is not. The email they sent was very unprofessional, just said do you want us to install or do you just want the software zip file. I opted for the zip file. I installed and it was a mess. They left other sites they have done in the past hard coded all over the place in the files. I spent a few hours fixing that alone.

There was no documentation included in the zip file and when I asked they just said it's on the site, after some searching I found it, but not that great either. They have now quit answering my emails so I don't know what's going on. I can tell you one thing, don't waste your time with http://www.pinterestclones.com/ .

At this point I've asked for a refund as the software doesn't seem to be what I was looking for. What a disappointment, I want to try out the $500 now.

Ugh, how disappointing and unprofessional. :S

Hopefully they return your money to you quickly and without a huge hassle. Based on the rest, though, I have a feeling that you're going to have to fight for it back...and do a fair bit of waiting. :(

If you try out the more expensive one, please let us know if it works out better.

Would've thought this would be the worst time to invest in a clone: with all the publicity around Pinterest, the prices are going to be jacked up through the roof and, as you've seen, the frameworks are going to be rickety and untrustworthy.

Why would you want a clone, by the way? Pinterest itself is too big to compete with straight up, so unless you're using it as a sort of add-on to a site, I would imagine it'd end up much like all those Twitter clones no one ever visits. I may be totally wrong, of course - I've never understood the whole bandwagon thing, so it'd be interesting to hear why you want a clone.

Well I like the script and I have bad impulse buying tendencies :)

I didn't want a clone to compete directly with it, I thought it would be cool to try out the software then create a niche site for some type of images.

then create a niche site for some type of images.

Oh! Now there's an idea... I think that might actually work out nicely if you did it right and worked toward a specific audience. :D

Hello everyone,

I'm Reinis, the lead dev behind the *other* product OP's referring to.

It's expensive, but I don't know about too expensive, think about how much time the coder(s) had to put in to recreate this. Bugs, features, support, ect...

Everything in this life is relative. The prices quoted *may* look expensive when compared to typical iOS apps or other commodity software, but when you realize the actual costs of creating such product, you will see that it's not too expensive (think 4-6 man-months multiplied by average software developer salary).

So I ended up purchasing the $200 one from http://www.pinterestclones.com/ .

Our customer area is fully automated, and you receive the sofware when our payment gateway notifies us that fraud checks have been passed (typicall an hour, but they sometimes verify suspicious purchases by phone).

There was no documentation included in the zip file and when I asked they just said it's on the site, after some searching I found it, but not that great either.

Our docs are always available here: http://demo.pinterestclone.com/docs/

That to be said, our software is written in Python programming language, using Django web-development framework. So if you're expecting a drag&drop installation, our product won't be the best choice. I do all of the installs for our clients (included in purchase), and the wild variety of different server configurations makes this process a headache even for a linux commandline geek.

Nathan - what a lovely forum - thanks!

Thank you for saving me a few bucks in testing the script out. If you have purchased the $500 option, please do share your thoughts. There are a few more clones that you may consider exploring and testing.... Let me know if I can help in anyway possible.

For the people with "normal" budget like me ,and I'm pretty sure most of the other people on this forum ,200$ is pretty big amount for us. I don't know about you Nathan ,but 200$ is way too much for me :D.

Just received a reply finally from pinterestclones.com, someone new has purchased the site, but they don't take care of refunds and forwarded it on to the "old owner".

Basically telling me it's not their responsibility they just purchased the website and software not the customer service... This is just completely unbelievable.

Do not buy from pinterestclones.com they are a complete scam.

That's pretty cool. I could see someone making maybe a gaming version of Pinterest using one of those scripts......that would certainly be interesting to see....$200-$500 though......it definitely won't be me. :P

Hey guys, just an update, the new owner has now refunded me and made things all good.

Turns out the old owner was a crook, but the new one is actually legit person.

If you are interested in getting a script, make sure you get one quick. Pinterest has gone viral and will likely peak in the near future. For maximum traffic, I would recommend setting this all up right and jumping on the bandwagon.

I think it is really interesting how people are already cloning Pinterest - that is when you know it's the next big thing.

Sounds like a good idea but l have to admit l am nervous about purchasing items like that because l know l would need a lot of help and to make it worse you now want a refund. Please post if you do get your refund because $200 is a lot of money to lose.

Wow! The Pinterest clone sounds like a good idea, but if I have to go through all of these problems with setting it up, and with poor customer service, I don't think it would be worth of all that hassle. It sounds as if that company's customer support is very unprofessional.
