Ram8349
How often do you back up files for your web site? How many copies of backup do you keep? I almost had a heart attack when all my public_html files were deleted when I deleted a new ftp account which not suppose to have any files associated with it. The latest backup was done on 4/29. Somehow when the files were restored, all my latest posts after 4/29 were still there. I guess the files for actual posts on the forum are not really under public_html? vaudevillianvet
Forum files are often kept in the database, I believe. Personally I back-up my site either "every-so-often" (monthly, but not exactly.), or whenever I make a big change.
Administrators Nathan Posted May 4, 2012 Administrators Share Posted May 4, 2012 The database 2 times per day, files 1 time per day.
crumblepie
Wow, that's a lot Nathan! I backup mine only after major redesigns. If there's an easy solution for backing up lots of sites at once, let me know. It would take up my whole life to backup all of my sites everyday. I have access to a VPS. Administrators Nathan Posted May 4, 2012 Administrators Share Posted May 4, 2012 Well it's scheduled so I don't manually do anything to backup. I have to do this often can't risk my websites or data.

ChuckTesta
I was backing up daily, but have now switched to weekly with 4 weeks trailing. After the 4 weeks, they overwrite.
Administrators Nathan Posted May 7, 2012 Administrators Share Posted May 7, 2012 My host backs up my site every day so I don't have to worry about anything. Yes probably backs up you files, but doubt they backup your databases.

JHTech100
Not enough... Database: Once every few days, and a weekly cron job. Files: Err... Every time I update forum software (few months or so).
JackClarke
Every 7 days. This is because the MCNode servers are backed up every 7 days so we just back them all up at once. It would be far too expensive to backup over 300GB daily. The backups are less important on our server because we don't upload a lot to it and it's usually kept on our computers as well. What is important is the client's data from MCNode.

ISHAN5
I will backup my files around every month so that no virus can affect them but some time this back up process take place earlier due to more viruses in my system
tetutato
Hmm I never do them manually unless I'm making big changes by myself. I believe my host has a scheduled backup.
dexterlablab1
I have my site and files set to be backed up every two nights at 1am. I had a really close hacker incident that could have cost me to lose everything. By the graces of God I lost nothing. But I damn sure learned my lesson and have been backing up everything ever since. Marc
Files are backed up as and when they are created as they are synced. Database is backed up 4 times a day currently.
Talk Tech News
I back mine up at the end of every week, without fail as no site owner can afford to lose any data.
dexterlablab1
Files are backed up as and when they are created as they are synced. Database is backed up 4 times a day currently. I should start doing it that much as well. You can never be too careful with the way hackers have been on a rampage in the last 2 years. Marc
I should start doing it that much as well. You can never be too careful with the way hackers have been on a rampage in the last 2 years. I just think that I put far too much effort into building my site than to lose it all just be ruined by someone.
ridwan sameer
I Think Daily backups for active sites and weekly/monthly backups for not so active sites\
dexterlablab1
I just think that I put far too much effort into building my site than to lose it all just be ruined by someone. I couldn't agree more. Nothing would be more depressing and spirit breaking than losing months or even years worth of work in an instant, just because a hacker decided to make trouble.
