how often do you back up your site files?

How often do you back up files for your web site? How many copies of backup do you keep?

I almost had a heart attack when all my public_html files were deleted when I deleted a new ftp account which not suppose to have any files associated with it. The latest backup was done on 4/29. Somehow when the files were restored, all my latest posts after 4/29 were still there. I guess the files for actual posts on the forum are not really under public_html?

Wow, that's a lot Nathan! I backup mine only after major redesigns. If there's an easy solution for backing up lots of sites at once, let me know. It would take up my whole life to backup all of my sites everyday. I have access to a VPS.

My host backs up my site every day so I don't have to worry about anything. :)

Yes probably backs up you files, but doubt they backup your databases.

Every 7 days. This is because the MCNode servers are backed up every 7 days so we just back them all up at once. It would be far too expensive to backup over 300GB daily. The backups are less important on our server because we don't upload a lot to it and it's usually kept on our computers as well. What is important is the client's data from MCNode.

I have my site and files set to be backed up every two nights at 1am. I had a really close hacker incident that could have cost me to lose everything.

By the graces of God I lost nothing. But I damn sure learned my lesson and have been backing up everything ever since.

I should start doing it that much as well. You can never be too careful with the way hackers have been on a rampage in the last 2 years.

I just think that I put far too much effort into building my site than to lose it all just be ruined by someone.

I couldn't agree more. Nothing would be more depressing and spirit breaking than losing months or even years worth of work in an instant, just because a hacker decided to make trouble.
