Administrators Nathan Posted May 7, 2012 Administrators Share Posted May 7, 2012 I use 2 23" monitors currently. I'm thinking about getting a third, but need to upgrade my video card first. At least 2 screens minimum is a must for any developer. ChuckTesta

KevinN
This is what I managed to find after a bit of searching. Perhaps any of them are interesting? Samsung 20" LCD Widescreen Monitor (E2020X) HP 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor (2031S)
CHiLL
Most of the time I only have one monitor. Though I connect my TV via HDMI to the PC sometimes, and use a dual screens to play a film or something on the TV while I'm in bed. Though in the next couple of days I'll be receiving a small-form-factor graphics card (£20) in work...so I can have two screens. Will help when trying to figure out VBscript, etc. Edited May 8, 2012 by CHiLL
Thomas
I do and I don;t. I just have my laptop next to my main computer switching every now and again.
TheMightyEddy
You should definitively try out Quad monitors. The only reason being is because you can have as many programs as your computer can handle but at the same time, have them all open and looking at you at the same time. Jimmy
Quad monitors would be insane aha
KevinN
I doubt his laptop is gonna be able to use 4 monitors without problems unfortunately. The resolution would be way too high. Edited May 8, 2012 by KevinN

On this setup do you have 4 ports on the back on your video card? Or do you only have 2 and then 2 splitters?
ChuckTesta
I went to best buy and picked up my monitors. I spent like 100 for each. I use two monitors as well. Like Nathan said, it's a must for Dev's.
JayRSD
I used to use dual monitors for music production. It is a lot easier to balance what you are doing if you have two monitors rather than squashing all your work onto one screen. I used a LCD and one CRT which isn't the best but it did the job! I'd like to get two screens but I'm running on a macbook right now and my other two computers are iMacs so that wouldn't work to well, I don't think. Not to mention having two screens look cool too
Victor Leigh
I have two monitors, one on my laptop and one connected externally to my laptop. However the one on my laptop is dead now so I am left with one. It's a Phillips 18.5-incher. My son has a 40-incher and I have tried it. Too big for me because I like to sit close to my monitor. ljepilo
Yes i recently got it on friday, it helps so so much. I would never get dual monitors, I can't watch into 2 things in same time. Its just impossible for me :/
Thomas
I would never get dual monitors, I can't watch into 2 things in same time. Its just impossible for me :/ When your at your computer working (When I say working I mean focusing on a task or project) do you not have to see lots of windows at the same time? I know just now I was setting up an FTP access and had to keep flipping to one email, then to another then to the FTP client. It would have been a lot easier if i could have sen all 3 at the same time even if it mean moving my head. As this gets more bumps and bumps I find myself wanting to test it out. Does anyone have any guides to setting up duel monitors?
Jessi
I don't currently actually, but I have in the past, will in the future, and am greatly wanting to do asap, lol. I miss having multiple screens to work on at once. At the very least, it's nice to have something playing on one screen or a research browser up, so I don't have to keep flipping back and forth. androidz
If you're doing work at home, it is very convenient to have a dual-monitor setup; in my case, I have my development IDE in one monitor, in another monitor/screen I'd have any open documentation that would help me in developing that application. It's quite useful actually, of course I'm sure some of you who do have dual-monitor setups use the same or similar arrangements with regards to screen space and understand completely what I mean. androidz
...As this gets more bumps and bumps I find myself wanting to test it out. Does anyone have any guides to setting up duel monitors? If you have a laptop, just plug the other monitor into the video port (usually VGA or HDMI), if you have a desktop that has a built-in Graphics Chip, you can do the same as the laptop method. If you don't... then buy a Video Card that supports dual monitors... you can determine this quickly by checking if it has two of the same kind of ports at the port end. The second part is after you've added the monitor is just right clicking on the desktop and clicking properties, there you can find options to extend or duplicate your desktop. Select the option of your liking or preference and have fun. Edited May 18, 2012 by androidz
psufootball
I have been considering getting a second monitor for a reeeaaallly long time, it just seems like I could be so much more efficient- and it would look bad ass haha.
CHiLL
As I referred to in an earlier post, we were getting dual monitors in work. Well the graphics cards arrived and we do indeed now have dual monitors. It has sacrificed a lot of desk space (thank God they aren't CRTs!), and both are either 19" or 20" widescreens. It takes some getting used to, but it has really helped when it comes to testing VBscript, remote controlling other computers or generally having the current list of known faults and emails on display, on one screen, while doing something else on the other.
