Administrators Nathan Posted May 8, 2012 Administrators Posted May 8, 2012 So from looking on CentOS's website 5.8 will be supported through 2017. The only way to upgrade from CentOS 5.x to CentOS 6.x is by backing up all your data then doing a clean install of the new version and restoring all you files. That's not really something I'm looking to do right now. So I can't find it out there, but I'm wondering if you can even install PHP 5.4 on CentOS 5.8. Has anyone tried or read about this yet? Quote
redinit Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Of course, you can always install PHP from source. Just YUM install all the "-dev" for linked software PHP needs. Then there are the REMI repositories http://rpms.famillecollet.com/enterprise/5/test/x86_64/repoview/php.html which has PHP 5.4 for CentOS 5 & 6 Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted May 8, 2012 Author Administrators Posted May 8, 2012 But will 5.4 be compatible with CentOS 5.8 or do I need to upgrade to CentOS 6.x? Quote
redinit Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 (edited) Yes it will be if you follow the instructions I gave you. There is no reason it shouldn't work. Edited May 8, 2012 by redinit Quote
TheMightyEddy Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Wow... 2017. That's a long time to go! But anyways, I'm using CentOS 5.6 . yes I'm outdated. xD Quote
