Administrators Nathan Posted May 31, 2012 Administrators Share Posted May 31, 2012 I've been working in a new project and have been using HTML as needed. While looking up commands I've found some differences for HTML 5. Are there any advantages or cons with using the newer HTML 5 code?
Fallace
Well, I'd imagine there are plenty of advantages, especially many of the added features such as integrated video! No need for flash = GREAT! Nathan
MrHappy
Your disadvantage is the fact that it isn't entirely compatible with all browsers. This is mainly because every browser doesn't follow a single set of web standards quite yet, however; we are slowly getting there. (Well everyone except IE.) If you are interested in keeping up-to-date with HTML5 Compatibility check out this page. http://html5test.com/results/desktop.html
Talk Tech News
As mentioned, I would say that the single biggest plus is surely that we can stop using flash.
Marc
Have not as of yet used html 5 at all. One thing I do like however is the items that google picks up on for categorising your forum better when indexing. Something that is used in xenforo. tetutato
I don't have much experience with html5 coding but from what I've seen of web designers, html5 projects have more flashy results

I've been reviewing HTML5 and I'm excited about it. It does have some cool features. For those things that aren't browser compatible, you'll just have to hold off on those. In response, to the whole browser compatibility issue...Isn't is so frustrating that IE is (always) lagging behind??!!! And mainstream users still use IE more so than other browsers so developers always have to accomodate that, although I am seeing some stats where other browsers aren't too far behind.. I suppose Microsoft does it on purpose because they're jealous that they aren't the ones come up with innovative ideas. sigh....
bryce12
I don't know why people hate Flash so much. I am not a Flash developer but I have been amazed time and again by what can be achieved with Flash. Plus it is lightweight and works well on all browsers unlike HTML 5 which may be years away from perfection. As for me, I haven't used HTML 5 but I am aware of some o its commands. To be honest, I'm not looking forward to using it but I know that pretty soon I'll have to start coding in HTML 5.

Well since they have decided not to support mobile browsers in the future, thats one good reason for html5 to me
