tetutato Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Oh no :/ I hope this doesn't mean us MyBB forum admins are in danger. http://www.mybb.com/maintenance.html Quote

merlyn73 Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Seems like a weird and unprofitable target for a hack. It's open source anyway, isn't it? Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted May 31, 2012 Administrators Posted May 31, 2012 Seems like a weird and unprofitable target for a hack. It's open source anyway, isn't it? But there are a lot of people's information there I'm sure between email's and passwords. Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted May 31, 2012 Administrators Posted May 31, 2012 Looks like they will be back shortly Dear MyBB users, Last night our domain name and hosting accounts were compromised by hackers. Users of MyBB should not be concerned about their own installations. There is nothing to indicate the MyBB software itself contributed to the hacking in any way. We hope to restore access to all services in the next 12 - 24 hours. At this stage we don't believe our database was compromised, however we recommend users stay vigilant to unauthorized access of their accounts. Updates: 11:15 AM GMT: We are pleased to say that we have control of the MyBB.com domain again. MyBB.com will be back online shortly, but services won't be available until we have thoroughly assessed what, if any, access the hackers had to our And this is from the "hackers" Originally Posted by hacker---> Joshthegod > MrOsama > Cosmo > CyberZeist <--- "fux0r With The Best , Die Like The Rest" Twitter.com/Ug Twitter.com/Joshthegod Twitter.com/Cosmothegod Twitter.com/le4ky ================================================== ============================ #UGNazi #Mybb #UGNaziwhmcs #Whmcs #fux0rskids #hack #joshthegod #UG #Cosmothegod #MrOsama #dox ================================================== ============================ MyBB has a relatively low-risk security record. Personal information needs to be secure. If we can acces it, so can terrorists. The truth is buried under lies and false promises. We tried to bring the truth to light, and we were ignored. We aksed you all before to open your eyes, have you done it? Have you seen that only you can keep yourself safe? Have you realized that only you are responsible for yourself? Have you opened your eyes to the fact that https:// does not mean that your information is safe? Or are you still being a sheep? Have you taken responsibility for believing lies? We have, and will continue to cause destruction. Are you mad? We have given you warnings and shown you examples of what we can do. If these companies do not secure their sites properly, data will be leaked. It is as simple as that. "hackforums.net" uses the forum software MyBB, We are tired of all the skids who claim they are hackers. As a personal note: we just don't like you, Jesse Labrocca. For those who think that people shouldn't enter places unauthorized: remove your information. Your morals and legal jargon will not stop these things from happening. If you don't want people to have access to it, don't give them the opportunity. There is risk in every endeavor, you are all painfully unaware of the risk these databases hold. Don't despair, for we are watching, and will continue to be watching. “There will always be something to ruin our lives, it all depends on what or which finds us first. tetutato Posted June 1, 2012 Author Posted June 1, 2012 Well yup that's good news. I just hope they weren't able to gain access to any personal account credentials on the community forums. Quote
ridwan sameer Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Oh thank god it was only Mybbs servers that were hacked and not their database, otherwise alot of people information would have been compromised Quote
Victor Leigh Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 I got another email from Yaldaram who is one of the myBB plugin developers. The problem is that many people use the same password for both their myBB accounts and also their own forum admin accounts. So it's time to start tightening up our own security, which is something we should have been doing all this while. Quote
JHTech100 Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 You guys should realize that this was hardly a hack... Getting access to someone's iCloud account then resetting a Namecheap password, then pointing the domain to their hack page. They didn't get server access, database access, or anything like that. Microsuck Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 They didn't hack anything. Their DNS cache was poisoned. Quote

Well yea but before the fact, everyone automatically assumed that it was a hack. Quote
Marc Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 Im utterly convinced these people are extremely bored, and therefore should spend their time writing modifications for my forums instead Quote
tetutato Posted June 3, 2012 Author Posted June 3, 2012 Im utterly convinced these people are extremely bored, and therefore should spend their time writing modifications for my forums instead Lol I'm sure they'd be skilled in that as well... But you never understand why there are groups like these... Perhaps they are getting paid by MyBB's competitors such as phpbb? O.O Quote
ridwan sameer Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 You guys should realize that this was hardly a hack... Getting access to someone's iCloud account then resetting a Namecheap password, then pointing the domain to their hack page. They didn't get server access, database access, or anything like that. That's all that happened? I thought it was a major hack or something And thank god i dont have a myBB account, because im sure I wouldve put the same password aswell Quote
dexterlablab1 Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Damn that sucks, glad I'm on IPB Unfortunately, not too long ago IPB was hacked too. It was about 2 years ago. I'm on IPB as well. But unfortunately, none of our boards are fool proof. Even at the highest level they get hacked once in awhile. More than likely from people inside the company at that. Quote
Ram8349 Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Why would someone try to hack MyBB official forum? They don't charge anyone anything. Who would they p1ss off? About two months ago there was also a DDOS attack on MyBB officlal site, it was unavailable for over a day or so. Do you think it is from competitor forum designers or from someone who simply have nothing better to do? Quote

Do you think it is from competitor forum designers or from someone who simply have nothing better to do? Sometimes, it's hard to understand what drives people to do these malicious things. No matter how nice and free any company is. Even on a personal level, there will be haters. And those haters will do stuff like this. Quote
Marc Posted June 7, 2012 Posted June 7, 2012 Do you think it is from competitor forum designers or from someone who simply have nothing better to do? People who see it as a challenge usually.... Or as you put it, have nothing better to do LOL I guess those are one and the same at times. Quote
