Hey everyone.

Recently won the Posting contest, and it;s my dream to open up another site, so this domain gives me the chance now. But I want to do it right this time.

SO I need your guys help. Im probably opening up a forum, Probably running MyBB As I dont have the funds to afford a expensive forum software.w

Then the niche of my site is quite undecided.

I love Graphic Designing (Too much competition), Gaming (too much competition) And WEb development (too much competition). SO I have no Idea what to do.

Then comes hosting, anyone know any good hosts with prices preferably less than 40$ a year?

Alright, so WHY do you want another site? You said it's your dream, but for what REASON? Are you hoping to make money? Are you looking to build a community? It's hard to help you pick out a niche if we don't know what the purpose is.

Nobody is too much competition. In my opinion your site is only as good as your interest and drive in the topic. Take graphic design for example. I enjoy playing around with photoshop and gimp, however Im not a member of a forum for it and Im a member of thousands of forums online. I am one person you wouldnt even need to take from the competition. Just aim for forums. Pick a small one as a target and aim to become bigger than them, then the next, then the next. Sooner or later you will wonder who your competing with.

The 2 cents I'd throw in is I wouldn't do something along the same lines as DeveloperBase. Not trying to scare you off, not trying to bully you out of the same area but we are a great tool and you are a greater member. If you started to create the same thing there might be some... awkward discussion.

I was about to say the same thing Marc, nothing is too saturated. That's just one of the reasons people will give you of why your forum will not succeed.

The niche you pick you need to be knowledgeable and passionate about or you won't make it very far. You also need to be willing to dedicate several hours per day to the project whether it be posting, promoting, designing ect.... Now to make it a little easier on yourself you could narrow down one of those categories instead of trying to include it all.

Let us know what topic you pick then we can help with domain names.

Because there's no better feeling than running a successful Forum. It's an amazing learning experience aswell, Dwelving in the world of web development is just something I love to do :)

True enough, But it;s harder to start on a populated niche, I mean im new to this, SEO isn't one of my skills, getting members will be hard.

But I agree though, nothing is too saturated :)

Definitely not going to try something Like Digitize Design :)

Ill have to have a sit down with myself and decide a niche then.

What are your guys opinion on some good hosting ?

There are lots of good hosts. Really any of the names you can see in the other topics will be good enough for a new forum.

Yeah but im looking for something thats less than 40$ a year or near

That's going to be tough to do, especially if you want a popular forum, no one will visit if it's slow.

Hmmm Just saying because the hosting at Avazio is available for that amount... But im a bit skeptical because I've never heard reviews from them and whatnot.

What's the minimal amount (yearly) I should look to spend on reliable hosting?

Ah, if you had posted this last week, I could have put you onto a good offer at Turnkeyinternet, the host for my sites. They had a 75% recurring discount then. Now they have a new offer but it's only 30% recurring discount. You can still get 20Gb disk space on a shared plan for a bit less than 2usd per month. You can find the offer here:

I can't give you any suggestion with the niche but if you come up with a good idea, post some somewhere like DP that you are looking for a hosting sponsorship for your new site idea. Most likely, someone with decent hosting service will reply. :)

Why don't you go with Godaddy?

They have pretty good hosting.

How about this for a domain name? RDesign. That would be a play on your name (assuming it's your name) and it would read like "re-design" or "ready designs". What do you think?

Nice Name.. But Sadly It is Taken :(

Oh really? How about ArdiDesign then? Makes it sound kind of Indonesian. Not really sure if you like that. ArdiDesign can be read as "R and D Design"

You can target a less competitive sub-niche of the big niches that you have mentioned. While I agree that you can start a forum in the big niches, it takes a lot of time and money to manage it successfully. It can take years for a forum to become truly successful and only the people with vision and patience can pull it off. Sorry if my post sounds discouraging but I have burned my hands several times so I don't want it to happen to others.

Your really good at this.. But Sadly It's taken :(

Here are some names that are available that I thought of

XPosedFX

XquisiteFX

Still Juggling names

The domaine name is very inportant and something you shouldn't take likely.

I suggest you also don't do any searches for domaine names using your hosts domaine searcher. It normally means they jack up the price.

Thomas is right, you wanna get your domain name depending on what you are targeting. To give yourself an idea of just how much I do this, I target husky owners, my site is www.husky-owners.com . I also own .org, .co.uk, .net etc etc.

Just curious. What do you do with the domain name with all the other extensions? Just park them?
