domains for fun?

OK, so I have a really bad habit that I want to know if anyone else has? I end up buying domain names just because either they sound cool and "I'll do something with them one day" or just because I think they will sound good in an email.

The one I enjoy using at the moment is hiscomputeragain.com . This was because my wife said to her m8 "he's on his computer again" so I figured I may as well have the suffix for an email address. I mean look at the possibilities for fun LOL

So anyone else?

Reckon is more of an english term.. Or Australian.. I Dunno :P

Sounds more American to me. Kind of like using 'figure' instead of 'think'. Reckon would mean more or less the same as 'think'. An American can tell us better about it.

Back on topic.

Money is always in short supply for me so I didn't have any chance to buy a domain name just for fun. I haven't even finished buying all the good domain names that I had thought of. Here's a funny one which flitted through my mind but I couldn't figure out how to make the best use of it except as something to do with Tweeter - Twit-Twat-Twot.

I don't like to "burn money" so I don't buy domains for fun. However, I do buy some domains that I think I could sell for a higher price over time, since I am pretty good, and creative when I think of new domain names.

Burn money? How much do you pay or domains? 7-8 bucks here.

Well that's still burning money. By the way you said you have 30 up. So that means like $240 per year being burned.

Whether it's money being burned or otherwise would depend on the total amount of money in the kitty, so to say. 240usd is a lot of money to me. However, to someone whose daily income is, say, 100 usd, that's not really a lot of money.

  • 2 weeks later...

I used to buy on impulse few years back but now I am more restrained. Now I rarely buy domains and when I do, I make sure that I put it for a good use. I do have few test domains though that i use for testing out different things without affecting the ranking or performance of my main sites.

Lol, yep! I haven't done it in quite a while and actually cut back by dropping some of the domains I'd had for a while and not done anything with. I'm always getting new ideas, but I just don't have the time to implement them.

What you can do is get together a group of friends in cyber space to do something about those ideas. I am sure there must be lots of people who would like to do something but don't have any idea about what to do.

Yep the classic "WTFWIT Domain Purchase".....

I bought PlayChessForMoney.com a number of years back..... and sure enough the next morning I thought to myself WTF was I thinking!!!

Funny thing is I continue to renew it in the hopes that online betting gets legalized in US one day!

There are a number of others that I have registered like that...

Phragrance.com - for those of us not quite PH balanced !

Orbedia.com - Orbitz or Expedia - cant decide? Let Orbedia do the work for you!

.....

Be glad to share my list if anyones interested....

Sure, but they're also likely looking to make money and I'm not going to pay a writer or developer at this point. "For fun" is why I would have the domains, so making someone else -work- doesn't necessarily mesh usually.
