Icons on the Desktop

Recommended Posts

Well I'm sure there is a setting somewhere but Google is failing me.

How do I get icons or files to show up on my desktop?

I've downloaded files/images/ect... none of them show up, but if I browse via folder and go to my desktop they are there. Looks like it's hidden by default somehow.

Which desktop are you talking about? I mean what OS are you using?

My icons were showing up, I just couldn't see about half of them. Turns out when you right click on the desktop and tell it to "Organize Desktop by Name" it sends all the icons to get aligned. My resolutions between my 2 screens are different so it put half the icons off the screen where I couldn't see them.

Ended up finding a know issue bug on this on Ubuntu's website. Guess I'll wait for the fix. Currently I just browsed to the desktop via the folder structure and drag and dropped those files to where I wanted them to be on my desktop.

Im betting thats the same issue for me then. I gave up on ubuntu after a couple of hours through feel of throwing my monitor at the wall.

I don't know much about Linux, but I do hope I don't experience these issues when I install Puppy Linux on my desktop. If I do I will have to refer back to this post to sort out the issue.
