Administrators Nathan Posted June 9, 2012 Administrators Posted June 9, 2012 So on Windows I used Rainmeter for showing system statistics. I liked how I could see all that system data on my desktop. Now that I'm on Linux I was looking for the same thing. I found Conky to be a great piece of software. Quote
ridwan sameer Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 Woah just read that thread.... It's a system analyser AND a skinner? Thats pretty epic. Conky Seems nice too Quote
JimBobIV Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Yeah, both programs are great, although anymore I feel like Rainmeter is focused more on aesthetics than on system monitoring or anything. I used to have a great looking Conky setup that worked well with almost any wallpaper I paired it with, but it didn't work right when I switched to Gnome Shell, and I seem to have lost it now. Quote
Victor Leigh Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 That's a good find. I am installing it now as I write. Using Synaptic Package Manager to do it. I have used Konqueror and it's a very good piece of software. So I look forward to good things with Conky, too. Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted June 10, 2012 Author Administrators Posted June 10, 2012 Can you Yeah, both programs are great, although anymore I feel like Rainmeter is focused more on aesthetics than on system monitoring or anything. I used to have a great looking Conky setup that worked well with almost any wallpaper I paired it with, but it didn't work right when I switched to Gnome Shell, and I seem to have lost it now. You know of anywhere to get different skins for it? Looks junky as the stock setup. Also I have to go to a Terminal window and type conky to get it to run then leave that window open. Can't I run it without leaving that terminal window open all the time? Quote
JHTech100 Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 I've heard a lot of good stuff about Conky, though I have never used it myself. Quote
Victor Leigh Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 I have got Conky running now. Yes, it's very basic in terms of design but then again the more eye candy is involved the more resources will be used. So I am happy the way it is. It shows me what I want to now. In real time. That's good enough for me. Quote
Marc Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Never tried conky, however used rainmeter in the past. The only thing I cant understand about em is that you can end up with something to monitor system resources that uses system resources LOL Quote
