Marc
On the face of it, considering every area usually matches in general look, its gonna have a nice facelift. vBulletin in my opinion is still the most feature rich out there which is why I have gone through vbulletin, then IPB, then xenforo, and ended up back at vbulletin. But if its getting a facelift IMO that is a very very very good thing as the styling at the moment on default is not the cleanest looking of the forums
Administrators Nathan Posted June 12, 2012 Administrators Share Posted June 12, 2012 Not all forums will look that way right? This is almost like a theme that will run on top of the forum and show posts ect.... in this format?
Marc
Not all forums will look that way right? This is almost like a theme that will run on top of the forum and show posts ect.... in this format? Looks to me like that will be the overall default theme tbh. They have said its just mockups, however it was also stated in the forumcon notes that people could get a hands on with the new version at the vbulletin table. Think there may be more than just mockups around lol
Marc
Confirmed by Paul that a large parts of the base code is indeed going to be completely rewritten
Administrators Nathan Posted June 12, 2012 Administrators Share Posted June 12, 2012 Confirmed by Paul that a large parts of the base code is indeed going to be completely rewritten Hmm...does this mean there is going to be another group of people that refuse to move from 4.x to 5.x like there was with 3.7? Marc
Hmm...does this mean there is going to be another group of people that refuse to move from 4.x to 5.x like there was with 3.7? I suppose that depends on 5.0. I was actually one who refused to go from 3.8 to 4.0. I actually moved to IPB instead initially. However this was because the build quality of 4.0 when it was first released was nothing short of an absolute disaster.
crumblepie
I still prefer vB 3.x .... it just seems to load faster on older computers. The newer versions get my laptop's fans spinning faster and that's the biggest reason why I have not upgraded. JHTech100
It looks much nicer, but IPB is still cheaper and already looks great by default. Though I am not exactly happy with their support community. Each reply to my Presales thread takes a day... Grrr.

tetutato
xD I think you're dreaming a little too fantastic (and yes, I used fantastic correctly). I don't see why not. JHTech100
I don't see why not. Free Forum CMS are on the rise and more and more people are changing over to them free solutions. Right, the company developing it (vBulletin) and making millions of dollars would decide "Who cares about money? Let's make it free and forget those millions!"... In this era of greed, it's just not likely to happen, at all.
Marc
Update to this. Some further information has been released on the expectations of backend. It seems that there has been MASSIVE redevelopment and moving more to an MVC way of product development. Provided they have some decent documentation once its released this could prove to be a very good move for vbulletin. If they get the interface looking as good as it seems it will do at first glance, I think we could see vbulletin looking once more like the market leader it is. And IMO its long overdue. With a team as big as theirs they certainly should be able to blow every other peice of software out of the water. I guess time will tell.
