JHTech100
Has anyone else used Maxthon 3.3 as their browser? I think it is designed really well and has stellar HTML5 support, but some page loads take a very, very long time. It's free and only runs on Windows. ridwan sameer
Maxthon? Is that the brpwser that was developed from netscape? I think I tried out a long time ago....and didn't really like it... But I'll check out the new version aswell
Hardison
A friend was telling me about this browser. It's supposed to be faster than Chrome. I made a note to myself to check it out. I wasn't aware that he was developed from Netscape. I really miss Netscape. It was my favorite browser back in the day.

Hardison
I downloaded the browser and played with it for awhile. Positives: It does seem to be a bit faster than Chrome. It has a "lightening speed" option. It's definitely faster than Firefox. Negatives: I don't like the interface, it seems a bit unprofessional and less "clean" than Chrome and Firefox. Also it doesn't have much screen space. It maybe possible to hide or reduce the toolbar, but I didn't check. It's new to me so it will take so getting use to. If I can get rid of that toolbar, I can see myself using it just for browsing.
__Darknite
For those that do not know the history behind Maxthon: * It use the same engine as Chrome aka WebKit * It also uses the same engine as Internet Explorer aka Trident Chrome have an incredible fast development cycle, which is also seam-less, I suspect any speed advantage will be short lived. But its good to have options. I'll stick to Chrome, the "Inspect element" and Javascript Console is just too sleek to every give up. Hardison
I did more browsing with Maxthon today. I was able to get rid of the side tool bar. I don't think I won't be using it much though. It's fast, but if a website is incompatible with it, it defaults to IE. That's is absolutely unacceptable.
ridwan sameer
Defaults to IE as in it opens the IE Browser? Or loads the page the way IE Does? Does it say what it's doing before it does it?
Victor Leigh
Just checked up on Maxthon. Nothing available for Linux yet. I think I will sit this out until they port it to Linux. As it is, I only use my Windows for World of Warcraft. On Linux, I use Opera most of the time now.

Victor Leigh
First time I have seen anyone using opera for a while. Used to have bad standards support. Assuming this is no longer the case then? I am using Opera version 12 now. I also have Opera Next which is somewhat like Firefox Aurora which is a continuously automatically updated beta release. I first used Opera when I had a very slow internet connection where I used to live before. That was when the turbo function in Opera made browsing not too much of a ho-hum game of waiting for sites to load. It's good for news sites because when turbo is activated, pages are loaded from Opera's own archives. Besides the built-in mail function, which I cannot find in any addons for Firefox yet, there is also the built-in notepad. Plus the sync option which means I can log on with Opera from another computer and load up my bookmarks. The only thing that I use often in Firefox which is not available in Opera is the upload to Imgur function. I have a premium account at Imgur and that's where I store my images. With Firefox, it's just one right-click. With Opera, I have to copy and paste the image url to Imgur. Incidentally, Opera is available in Hiren BootCD. It's that small. Hardison
Defaults to IE as in it opens the IE Browser? Or loads the page the way IE Does? Does it say what it's doing before it does it? It loads the page like IE does. It doesn't launch IE, thank goodness. It tells you after it's done it. I may continue to play with Maxthon to really give it a chance, but I'm not impressed with it. It is fast though.
SwitchCase
I tried using maxthon a few months ago. Its a fast browser with lots of features loaded. I was amazed by their pop-up video and video sniffer feature. It's a cool browser but I don't trust them that much yet. I don't feel confident using it in online banking. But on the bright side, maxthon is really awesome. They still need to convince me though about their browser security. bryce12
Gotta check it out. If it is faster than Chrome then I can see myself using it otherwise I am going to stick with Firefox. I can't really abandon Firefox as it has tons of plugins that I use on a regular basis. Edited June 19, 2012 by bryce12
Administrators Nathan Posted June 19, 2012 Administrators Share Posted June 19, 2012 Even if it is faster, not sure how pages for me currently load in less than .10/sec, I probably still won't use it. How do I know it's secure and can protect my computer or the credentials I input through it? No thanks, I'll stick with Chrome.
CHiLL
Browser speed is becoming less of a factor with technology advancing in the way it is.

I remember reading somewhere that Chrome tracks you internet activities. If you want to use Chrome with the tracking feature disabled, you can try Iron. It's Chrome with the tracking feature removed. I didn't say it was, I just meant it has a huge reputation and Maxthon doesn't, so until more is know about the browser I won't use it. I don't care that they track my internet activities. __Darknite
Wait so from what I understand, the browser's faster than even Google Chrome just with worse interface? Yes Probably (in terms of speed). However: They both use the same underlying engine (aka WebKit). Sure Maxthon may right now have a speed edge, however Chrome innovate at an incredible pace. __Darknite
How do you know when they update? I never notice, always done behind the scenes. That's because they have bit-level seam-less updates, you can be browsing tabs and it could be updating in the background. Its a rolling update. So you never need to know. Its always up to date. Just check the version number if you really want to know Another reason why Chrome rocks
