So I now have Ubuntu up and running in a decent manor on my computer, however I am very much a windows guy. This leaves me with a bit of confusion when it comes to what programs to use for what.

So, What programs do you use for what? I'm after a list of which is the best programs to use for photo editing, video playing and editing, PHP IDE, Notepads, etc etc etc

Gimp is probably the best Photoshop alternative, if that's what you're looking for. I'm not using Linux but I'm sure it is compatible with the OS. After all, it is open source, if I remember correctly.

Gimp is actually the only one I knew to download instantly LOL. I believe gimp was actually ported to windows from linux in the first place to be honest, although I could be wrong.

I used Gimp and for editing files I stuck with the default gedit. Works pretty well.
