Thomas Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 So for the first time ever I am going to complain about http://x10premium.com/ I every now and again do a full cPanel backup of everything using the wizard. I've never had a problem with it. Last night I was doing it to 2 websites (both hosted with them although one is on server 4 and the other is on server 5). Turns out on S5 they have disabled all backups for cPanel and you have to ask them to do a restore. Now I don't need a restore however not being able to do a backup does scare me especially as the person writing back in the support tickets was using very bad english: Hi, It seems our management staff has disabled the user level backup option. If you need to restore any backup let us know show that we will do restore for you. Regards, Ruben Hi, Sorry, We have disabled backup in one of our servers. Regards Now would you say this is reason enough for me to leave? Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted June 18, 2012 Administrators Posted June 18, 2012 Haha, why not do it from the command line? I think it's kinda what you get for that price though. Quote

Marc Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 I would personally ditch anyone that didnt let me back up my own content. And thats regardless of the price. However I do agree with Nathan, you tend to get what you pay for. Dunno what your paying btw. Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted June 18, 2012 Administrators Posted June 18, 2012 I was just guessing the $3.99 offered on the main site. Quote

You don't get shell access with x10Premium, by default at least. I've used x10Hosting, x10Premium & x10VPS. I've got 7 VPS' with x10VPS on different nodes. Incredibly happy with their service. My VPS' have never gone down, the support is always fast and I enjoy the experience with them. Best VPS provider I've been with. Quote

MustangV10 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Why are you using others for hosting when you have your own? I've got several VPS' with them for parts of Astounding Host. I would rather not say what for, for obvious reasons. We host all of our systems in different data centres for reliability. If the network had problems in one DC, then not everything would go down. Administrators Nathan Posted June 20, 2012 Administrators Posted June 20, 2012 Ah makes sense. Thanks for clarifying. MustangV10 1 Quote
dexterlablab1 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 The fact that they aren't allowing you to back up your OWN content and you need permission from them in order to do so is very troubling. That's practically hijacking your site. I'd move ASAP. Quote
LiquiLayer - Brent Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I just saw this thread for some reason... completely unacceptable. This leads me to believe you're in an overloaded environment potentially running at the max and they don't want users generating backups because it uses resources. Quote
JHTech100 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I'd make a MySQL backup, ZIP up my files in the File Manager, download, and then leave. If you can't get a backup of your content, it's time for you to find another host. Quote
redinit Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 (edited) What's wrong with the price? That's the price of an average good host. :/ Actually, no it isn't, Nathan is right, you can't expect much for that price. They are offering "unlimited" everything for less than $7/Month. First, unlimited doesn't exist, everything has a limit, and $7 is not much to maintain quality servers. That's the average price for a low-budget, low quality host. So you can expect overloaded servers, and weird resource restrictions. This seems normal for the price you are paying, you can't expect to pay pennies and receive special features. Yes, backups aren't required by any law to provide hosting, but it's a good idea so you should be keeping offsite backups yourself. Edited July 1, 2012 by redinit Quote

Oh well I was thinking just for average websites, such a price can get you pretty good hosts (imo) like Bluehost, Fatcow, hostgator, etc. Quote

To be honest, the average webmaster doesn't worry about backups or anything of that nature until it's too late. Edited July 1, 2012 by redinit Quote
Thomas Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 A weapon of mass destruction. No, it's just a very small forum that I am finding harder and harder to run. Quote

Thomas Posted July 16, 2012 Author Posted July 16, 2012 I'm now with VopaHost with something completely overpowered for what I have. Marc 1 Quote
KMRock Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I have never had good experiences with these hosts, and sounds like pretty poor not allowing back ups. Quote
Victor Leigh Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Seriously speaking, I cannot think of any use for hosts which do not allow backups. Unless we are talking about sites which are put up and forgotten. You know, static sites which are never updated. Quote

ridwan sameer Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Woah, Thomas complaining about x10? They Must've really screwed up Quote
Dyme Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 They don't give you the correct permissions to back up your own site? I've never even seen such a thing! Glad you gave them the boot, it's a really idiotic move on their part. Quote
