Hmmm... So hard to say if it will be a hit or not. While I like Microsoft products I don't care much for any tablet. And if I was going to purchase one just for the sake of blowing several hundred dollars I would get an iPad.

They won't be able to touch the sales that the iPad has, but I do think it will still do well. It's all going to depend on pricing.Get that right, as in undercut the iPad by quite a bit...then they're in for a chance of success. However, I do think that tablet computers are a fad, just like netbooks were.

I don't like tablets either but I have to say that Microsoft has got a great product here. The good thing about Surface is that it will have a completely new OS which is optimized for touch devices. It is too early to tell whether it can make a dent in iPad's sales but if Microsoft can convince even a fraction of the people who use Windows computers then it would be interesting to watch the fight between two tech giants.

Agreed. Surface doesn't exactly get anyone excited by the sound of the name but then again I think some other company recently launched something called Glass. Was that Microsoft, too?

I think a lot will depend on how successful windows 8 is tbh. I have actually used quite an up to date version of windows 8 on a tablet at work due to us being microsoft partners and its actually quite nice to use in that environment and you can clearly see this is more what it was designed for.

I will still stick to my iPad..

Apple forever!

That isn't exactly constructive, and we don't want to start a flame war now, do we?

Actually I feel a bit sorry for the Microsoft staff who were assigned to come up with something that can capture the tablet market. There are just that many things that you can do with a tablet. You cannot make the screen too large. You cannot make the body too heavy. Lots of constraints involved.

I agree ... Besides its like comparing apples and ora.......... In fact forget that analogy LOL

Well one bad move was having the Tablet getting stuck in the middle of their presentation and having him to switch out tablets in between. But unlike most flamers... Im not going to judge it by its alpha product.

It was intended to imply that I think the Surface will fail (as per the topic and topic title), or at least not do well. I guess it didn't convey that meaning to you ;).

Google has just announced the Nexus will sell for less than 200 usd. Now that adds a new factor into the tablet price war. A very interesting new factor indeed. Will Microsoft sell the Surface cheaper than the Nexus?
