Ram8349
I'd like to know how long it took you to get to the 500, 1000, and 5000 visitors per day? How much content do you have before you get there? Like how many articles and forum posts/members etc. I have been running my new web site for four months now. It has an article section as well as a forum. It is not easy to build things up from scratch. I am only getting anywhere between 100~200 visitors per day. I have only less than 4000 forum posts and 9 articles so far. ridwan sameer
it depends on the amount of work you put on and the niche of your site. Some niches get people instantly.. And some niches it takes time before you get to your audience/ 500 visitors per day can take anywhere up to 3-6 months .
__Darknite
You need to take a long term strategy. As Ridwan has said it varies from one site to another. The bigger question is not only getting traffic BUT sustaining it. You need to think about activity on your site. This is the key in my view. If you can keep the activity up on your site, then the rest will follow naturally. Concentrate on having fun on your sites, stop focusing on numbers and focus on "how much fun" did I get from the site today
bryce12
It depends on the niche. I think your niche is competitive otherwise your site should have been getting more visitors. I would recommend adding more threads on low competition, long tail keywords so that your site starts getting traffic for lots of long tail keywords. You can also use social media like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube to promote your forum and get more visitors.

You can also use social media like Facebook, Twitter, Youtube to promote your forum and get more visitors. I have been doing the social media promotion on all the 3 things you mentioned, as well as a long list of popular social bookmark sites. The niche I choose is highly competitive. But it is also very very popular. Which niche doesn't have competition already? I just think it is a better idea to pick something popular rather than something not so popular, if I want to create a popular site. How do you find low competitive words? Wouldn't low competitive words also be less popular? Edited June 25, 2012 by Ram8349
Victor Leigh
Low competitive words? Let me give an example. I am using Google Keyword Tool to do this. This is what my search looks like: I have circled the words "low" in red. This means that those words "dog" and "canine" have low competition. However they do have 83 million and 16 million searches made for them each month. Which means that people search for those words but they do not get a lot of content with those words. So if your content has the words "dog" and "canine" there is a good chance of being found by people who search for those words, especially if you have a high LSI for those words. Of course, this is what I think it's supposed to be. Perhaps someone who is more experienced with keywords can give a better explanation. Administrators Nathan Posted June 25, 2012 Administrators Share Posted June 25, 2012 I'm assuming you are using the Google Adwords tool to get those numbers? Isn't the competition based on how many advertisers on Adwords are targeting those keywords? Also even though "dog" is a low competition keyword, I wouldn't expect to rank for that.
