Ram8349 Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 When you post the news and videos you saw from somewhere else, is there a risk for copyright issue? Usually I avoid copy and paste. What I do is to write a small paragraph summary in my own words, plus my own opinion on this news, then I would add "Original article", and then add a link to the article I saw. Then ask people for their opinion. For videos, I would often emb it, with a very small summary about what it is without totally spoil it. Then ask people for their opinion. Do you think it is fine for what I did? Since I always provide original web address to where I found the content and I never directly copy and paste full sentences. What do you do when you post what you saw from another web site? Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted June 25, 2012 Administrators Posted June 25, 2012 You are fine as long as 1. You don't claim it as your own work. 2. You provide a link showing the source. Quote
Marc Posted June 25, 2012 Posted June 25, 2012 Agreed.... I mean technically you should actually ask unless otherwise stated, however its very very few and far between that someone is going to start moaning if you add reference to them. In fact quite to the contrary, they will generally welcome it. Quote
bryce12 Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 It is perfectly acceptable as long as you provide link to original source. Lot of people create auto generated sites which do nothing but scrape data from popular sites. Even I had few autoblogs doing this and I have never faced any problems. Quote
Victor Leigh Posted June 26, 2012 Posted June 26, 2012 I think it's fine as long as it's not a blatant copy and paste job. Myself, when I see something interesting, I would point out what's interesting and then supply the link for more information. One thing that has always been in my mind concerns the use of pictures. Theoretically, we cannot use some else's picture without his permission. So the question I have been thinking about is whether showing a thumbnail would constitute an infringement of copyright. Quote
tetutato Posted July 5, 2012 Posted July 5, 2012 Just wondering (because I noticed it on another forum) is it copyright violation if you copy and past like 2 paragraphs of the article yet still give link back to it? Quote

Well I don't know about exactly amount you are allowed to copy and paste, but wouldn't you be penalized by Google for duplicated content if you have an entire copy and pasted paragraph? Quote

I think that part about duplicated content may have something to do with whether you have the permission to re-publish the content. I am re-publishing articles from The Guardian, with their permission, and I have not seen any problems with Google yet. Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted July 5, 2012 Administrators Posted July 5, 2012 I've heard recently that you are not penalized for duplicate content anymore. It may not help but does not hurt? Quote

Do you republish entire articles? Is a backlink to their site required? Quote

jaymish Posted April 24, 2018 Posted April 24, 2018 I agree. Just acknowledge the source of the article or video. If you're willing to go the extra mile, you can ask the owner of the website if you can reuse the article on your website or blog. Most are willing to give permission because of the link back. This is the safest way and will only take you a few minutes, in the form of an email. This becomes an issue if you copy the article word for word and pass it off as yours or if you copy the ideas and say they are yours. You need to be careful, because if reported Google can pull down your article or video. How embarrassing! Quote
wallet Posted April 27, 2018 Posted April 27, 2018 Every time I am posting a video, news or pictures that do not belong to me I provide a link to my source. It is illegal to post something that was copied and claim to be yours. Quote
Bravosi Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 I used to upload on YouTube, until I've quit it. The whole copyright policy gets absurd. I get that companies want to protect the individual rights of a person, but during these days almost anything can get flagged for copyright and etc. Quote
Alania Posted January 9, 2019 Posted January 9, 2019 As many people above have said - there are certain things you have to ensure before posting anything. As long as you leave the original link and claim it as someone else's. I do however agree with Bravosi, policies are getting absurd lately. Especially on YouTube. Quote
