Victor Leigh Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 I started with Ubuntu. Later I used Puppy Linux which is based off Ubuntu. After that I tried Linux Mint. Then I discovered Debian. Of course, it's not a totally new operating system to me. Ubuntu itself is a fork of Debian. Linux Mint also has a version built on Debian. I haven't really scratched the surface yet with Debian. What I have found out so far is that I can change the desktop environment. This is quite an interesting thing to play with. At one end of the spectrum, there is KDE, which is a very complete and comprehensive desktop environment. KDE even has a browser which works as a file manager, too. At the other end of the spectrum, there are bare-bone desktop environments like Openbox where you get a blank desktop, devoid of any icons. Have you tried Debian yet? Quote
