Victor Leigh
With the recent acquisition of Instagram by Facebook, many IT observers have been keeping a sharp eye out for other acquisitions in the offing. One writer stumbled on what he thought was a monumental expose. When he delved deeper into it, he found that things had just fizzled out before they reached boiling point. However, that's only what he was told. There may be other things bubbling below the surface. So what do you think? Would it be a good idea for Apple to buy Twitter? Administrators Nathan Posted July 29, 2012 Administrators Share Posted July 29, 2012 Whoa! Didn't hear about this, but I think it would be good for Apple.
Victor Leigh
Well, from what I have read, it was something that someone started, then the idea got abandoned. Or went underground.
bryce12
These rumors surfaced last year as well but they turned out to be false. In my opinion, the culture of the two companies are completely different so even if Apple manages to buy Twitter, it's going to be disastrous for Twitter users. Apple likes to keep a tight leash over its tech while Twitter is much more open so they can never really become compatible.
Jessi
It might be good for Apple, but I don't think it would be good for Twitter or Twitter users. Then again, could they make it much worse than they already have dealt with in the past? Probably not. Maybe having a decent chunk of money dropped into it could make it even better instead. JHTech100
I think just because of how different the two companies and products are make this rumor false. But you never know if Apple is looking for something to replace Ping in iTunes, but just be much broader.
machtm
I dunno... I recently saw Biz Stone speak (an original twitter co-founder) and it sounded like the purpose of twitter and it's original purpose is something completely against the idea of a giant corporation. But money always speaks lol... very interesting read thanks for posting!

ridwan sameer
Apple will monetize from it for a while.. And Twitter will die out if it happens ..
machtm
Let's hope this doesn't happen. I'm definitely not an "apple hater" or anything but I love the premise and story behind twitter's start... Definitely recommend you all youtube "Biz Stone" and check out the story of how it initially started!

KMRock
For some reason I can't see this as being a good thing, I prefer twitter as a stand alone. beans902

machtm
Yeah, I haven't read anything about this online yet... Not coming up on any of the major news sites and social media (related news) sites I check on the daily... Glad it hasn't happened though!
KMRock
Yeah instagram was much better before it was purchased I can agree with that!
Victor Leigh
Do you think corporate thinking and innovative thinking are actually incompatible? I mean, just look at all the big corporate players. How innovative are they? As compared to smaller, independent players?
johnthomas1433
Twitter just recently introduced a new revenue earning method for their members and changed their revenue model, and I cant think that they shall be selling themselves to Apple at this stage. But when I think about Instragram, I rather would have believed that Apple shall have bought them, due to the way Instragram works.
machtm
You are definitely right about major corporations being innovative - the problem I find when a company is purchased by a much larger one is support.... Support processes and procedures usually become lengthy and it's just difficult to get through to them. right now if you are advertising in twitter, you are spending a decent amount of money and they love talking to ya! KellyKellz
As long as I can still use Twitter on my android devices and windows computer, I couldn't care less. Until that day comes when Apple buys Twitter and makes it exclusive to their products I won't start going crazy like when I first read the title of this post. I don't have any "beef" with apple, they are just a little too exclusive for my taste.

KMRock
Yeah I mean apple are a good company, you just don't want everything to turn into money and about them and their company.
Isabellas2007
I have not heard of this before! It would make for an interesting shift though. Would you have easier access with Apple products then or continue to fight the strong battle!
bigbigfan
I sincerely hope Apple buys Twitter, it would be a great match. I don't think the ownership of Twitter will accept any offer that is even remotely reasonable, they will hold on until a price that is 10x too big is offered and that will be the deal breaker, imo. Current management at Twitter is extremely greedy according to many, even if they don't make very much from Twitter. The value in Twitter is it's heavy use by celebrities, only Facebook and Twitter get tons of free advertising on every website and only Twitter can be bought so yes, Apple, get it done! KMRock
Yes fair point, though I do believe it wouldn't be financially a good business deal for apple to buy twitter.
beans902
For some reason I can't see this as being a good thing, I prefer twitter as a stand alone. I agree l don't see it as a good thing, another giant taking over another giant which means more control. If Apple takes over twitter that means that Apple will have even more control when it comes to people's information and l really see that as a bad thing. If they was to give all there customers a nice voucher to use in there shops then that might ease the discomfort people feel.
