Administrators Nathan Posted January 5, 2013 Administrators Posted January 5, 2013 Does anyone know about reselling voice servers? I had my eye on a company doing this on Flippa, but fell asleep too early last night and missed winning the site by $50. So frustrating. I'm still interested in giving this a go. Instead of buying the existing site I figured I would just develop my own. I'm trying to find someone to resell through so I don't have to keep up the server costs and maintenance. Quote
Victor Leigh Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Voice server? Do you mean something like Ventrillo? I have used Ventrillo before when I was playing WoW. It's very handy during raids because both my hands were fully occupied with the controls on the keyboard and the mouse, so I needed the voice channel to keep in touch with my raiding party. Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted January 6, 2013 Author Administrators Posted January 6, 2013 Yeah Ventrilo, Teamspeak, and Mumble. Found some good information about how to make it work today. Development will begin Monday on it. Ill post progress and links along the way. Quote
Victor Leigh Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 In the meantime, I would suggest making your presence felt in the gaming forums, especially those specializing in MMORPGs. There's only one such forum that I had been active on. It's AC-Web.org but it has been years since I lurked in there. Doubt if any of my friends there are still online. Most of them are schoolchildren so they probably have finished school by now and are busy fighting off the wolves howling at the door instead of battling Illidan. Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted January 6, 2013 Author Administrators Posted January 6, 2013 Yeah I need to. Putting together a marketing and affiliate plan this next week. I have a network of a few gaming forums that are decent size to advertise on but would also like to pay for some. I'm thinking BuySellAds.com may be a good place to start. Quote
Victor Leigh Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I have never used BuySellAds so I cannot say, from personal experience whether they are any good. However, I do know one forum owner who had actually used it and he stopped after some time. Maybe his case is different because he is using BSA to monetize his forum. Quote
Thomas Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) I love the idea of this. VoIP is becoming more and more popular. I for one still have a team speak server that costs me something like £20 a year. It's so much nicer to keep in contact with people then Skype or emails. I used to use it for teem meetings. I'd happily get behind you Nathan. On another note I'd be careful of Ac-Web. It's a forum about World Of Warcraft emulating. This isn't the problem. It's the people. They are all youngsters that can't afford the real game and think they are all developers. Lots of young people pretending to know SQL, C++ and PHP. It's also has a group of members that do have money that try and make some quick bucks on the web. Setting up gold selling company's, power levelling, voice comes and selling scrips at are a lot simpler. One thing I might suggest is to look for a gaming website like OpenRaid, WoWHead or maybe a more popular guild and offer them free services if they promote your server (could even offer them a commission if they refer you). Good luck with this Nathan and keep us up to date.Ps: sent from my iPad. I apologies if the formatting isn't as good as it should. Edited January 6, 2013 by Thomas Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted January 6, 2013 Author Administrators Posted January 6, 2013 Thanks! Development starts Monday. I will post links so anyone that wants to can follow development. Quote
Thomas Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Sounds like good news. A few websites I might suggest if you fancyed getting those first customers through the door: http://www.wowprogress.com - A catolog of the Top World Of Warcraft players. Most of the top 200 or so also stream and have fans. Easily would want a free voice server. http://www.twitch.tv/ - Those streaming in action. http://openraid.eu/ - A very big community that might accept you although do have one 750 slot server currently. Details on: http://openraid.eu/users/voicechat Quote
Victor Leigh Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Yes, Thomas, you are right about AC-Web. I learned about the dark side of forum posting when I was active there. Yes, it's full of those people you are talking about. The only reason I mentioned it was because it's the only gaming forum that I am familiar with. Maybe there are people on that forum who would actually pay cash for a voice server. Doesn't hurt to try if it costs nothing to try. Quote
Thomas Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 (edited) Ever since this topic came up it's really started me thinking about how interesting it would be to work for a company like this; then I started to think well maybe I should look and see how hard it is to set one up. Now I know I don't have the money to set up one but it's interesting nether the lest. The main thing to have found that you need to be a proper company before you start to offer this. To become a re-seller of TeamSpeak it looks like you need to obtain a business license and be a registered company however according to the Gov.uk you would only need to notify the information commission that you will process data about your staff. Now this has been really interesting and I wish it could take it further. Update: Looking into it further it appears there are actually very few companies that offer this especially in the UK. Administrators Nathan Posted January 9, 2013 Author Administrators Posted January 9, 2013 Yeah it's very interesting to me as well. Something I enjoy is gaming so thought it would be a great avenue to take a look at. Development has begun OSG Servers. Quote
Thomas Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 WHM can power it? I'm even more interested now! God if only these things were free. So does this mean your a verified supplier? Also I know your very early in development but I'd look into the size you are going to offer for the servers. Most games require players to be in groups of 10, 15, 20 25 and maxium would be 40. Obviously they would be stupid to to buy a 10 slot server if they actually had 12 team members so maybe add 10% onto these numbers as well as these numbers? I've also seen that currently I could order a server 8 slot server and only pay $1.20 each year! Bargin! However If I add on the 4 extra slots then that bumps up the price: I can't wait to see how amazing Nathan makes this project. And PS: I love finding things to annoy nathan about. Quote
Thomas Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 O and something that you might want to look into is the ability to remove the host information. That little welcome to... means free advertising! Give them an option to turn it off... for a price... Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted January 9, 2013 Author Administrators Posted January 9, 2013 Yeah still in development so a long ways to go, but probably will be complete in a couple weeks. I like the idea of free adverts unless they pay to remove. Quote
Thomas Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Have you managed to find a problem that sets up the server and manages it for you? Or is it all done manually? Also are you now verified to sell these products? Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted January 9, 2013 Author Administrators Posted January 9, 2013 Working on a custom solution right now. Once someone chooses their server, checks out and pays it will then automatically provision their server and email them the server information. Yes I'm verified for all 3. Quote
Thomas Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Wow! You really do work quickly! Let us know of any updates! Quote
Administrators Nathan Posted January 15, 2013 Author Administrators Posted January 15, 2013 Thanks. It's about 1:15am here so going to call it for the night. Eyes are on fire Check out progress: http://osgservers.com/ Still a lot to be done, but it's coming along. Quote
Victor Leigh Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Just had a look. The prices are very reasonable. A thought just occurred to me. Those voice servers can also be sold to people who work as a team but are physically located all over the world. Using a voice server is certainly a lot cheaper than making phone calls. Are there any bandwidth restrictions? Quote

Victor Leigh Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Unlimited? Then it's a great buy. I think I will contact the other members of my team and see if they are interested in some kind of audio conferencing facility. How many users can be online at any one time? As many as the server slots which are paid for? Quote

Administrators Nathan Posted January 16, 2013 Author Administrators Posted January 16, 2013 All basic functionality is now there. We can now take orders. Design changes will still be happening over the coming days, but it's live! Quote
